re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi guys,

Bought the Lumia 730 yesterday from a retail shop. Haven't transferred all the data from my Lumia 520 till now. Used it a bit though. Phone seems to be much faster than the 520. The screen is AMAZING! Both the cameras are great. Overall the phone looks good.
Anyone looking out for a phone under 15k, this one should be in your consideration list. Windows phones have become much better over time. This one comes with Lumia Denim update out of the box. Will post detailed experience when i use it more.

Cheers

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Looking for a basic phone (non-touch, old school phone with a keypad & 2-2.5 inch screen, 3g is beneficial but not mandatory) with 1-3k range from known brands (pref avoid chinese makes). Main requirement is that the call audio quality is clear & loud enough, which is a complaint for most new phones nowadays.

Anyone who has purchased a simple phone meeting the above criteria? pl. comment with model & feedback.

^^^I purchased Nokia 225 for my mom. It doesn't have 3g, has facebook app and sports a big screen with low-ish resolution. She uses it mainly for calls/sms. I found that the phone quality is very good for that use, and battery holds its charge for many many days. Maybe you can consider that.

For 3g, there is one model 208 (i guess) but the screen is smaller.

Hard to get all your requirements in a phone. Though Asus Zenfone 6 meets most of your requirements -

Dual Core, 1.6 GHz
2 GB RAM
Dual SIM
Battery
3300 mAh, Li-ion
28 h talktime (2G)

Display
6.0 inch (Large)
HD,
Gorilla Glass
Price - 17k

I felt that Windows Phone sucked. Big time.

So, now decided to get an Android. In comes the Motorola G.

The issue here is that, the G.2 is retailing at 13ish k. And the final stocks of the previous generation- At 9k.

So, considering the cost differential, is it still worth going for the second generation, at 13k?

Mi3. There's no other phone with the snapdragon in that price unless you can wait for crazy discounts on n5. Paytm sold n5 for 21.5 k last week in a deal. But it doesn't have dual sim.

Zenfone is your only close fit but it doesn't have full HD.

Primary difference is the screen and the camera. So if you don't need a good camera, old one is better value IMHO.

Ended up buying a Gionee L800 with 3000mAh battery from ebay for Rs. 1860 (with 15% off). User feedback on Amazon & Flipkart was overall good, with loud enough volume levels & hence went for it. Battery should be a winner considering its capacity which is much higher than the new gen smart phones. Waiting for it to be shipped now.

Anyone got the battery replaced for Nexus 4? I think it's time I should get it changed. Procedure, time taken and any idea of the cost involved?

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

I was curious to know the journey of this industry and wanted to know the range of mobile phones that our BHPians used 10 years back. so went to the very first page of this thread to find our where we started. Here is the list of phones that i saw on the first page.. i didn't click the 2nd page.
Seeing the below list, question that flashed my mind was whether nowadays with Sammy (Samsung) , LG, Sony the then TV manufacturers when Nokias and Motorolas were manufacturing mobiles have taken over the market of mobile phones from them.

Nokia 6610, nokia 6600, Nokia 6510, nokia 7210, nokia 9210, Nokia 8210
Sony Ericsson T-105, Motorolla... C350

In 2004, i was using a Nokia 1100 and one another Philips make (don't remember the model number) and today, my Blackberry torch 9810 looks outdated. what a journey this industry has seen in such a short span> technology grew, hyper competition, markets shifted continents.

i am sure there is more to come.

I'm using Samsung e2252 for about 3 years. Sleek and simple. It purely serves the purpose - a PHONE :sly:. Has Bluetooth as well, so periodically I share the contacts with my android device and maintain the backup. One drawback : no conference calling facility

Sync contacts to Nokia PC suite, export to .CSV file. Import that CSV file using computer into your gmail account associated with your Redmi, sync your Redmi and done.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Please suggest a smart phone for the following requirements -

1. Should have keypad.
2. Should have good quality front and rear cameras.
3. Navigation, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc will be used frequently on that.
4. Brand doesn't matter but reliability and service backup do.
5. Good battery backup
6. Not keen on getting something expensive.

Thanks
