Wifey had the first gen and it was a great phone (for the price). Only issue being, it didn't work when submerged under water :-). Jokes apart, that one died, and, I ordered another one today (exchange offer with an old samsung phone).

Got one for myself 5 days back. Switched to android after close to 3 years on windows phone.

Everything is good except for the camera quality and the screen resolution.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi guys,

Need quick opinion whether the Xperia ZR is a better buy at 15999 compared to Moto G 2nd gen at 12999.

What i get extra for 3k:

- Faster processor 1.5ghz vs 1.2ghz
- Double Ram 2gb vs 1gb
- Better graphics Adreno 320 vs 305
- Better camera 13mp BSI vs 8mp regular
- Water & Dust resistance
- Larger Battery 2300 vs 2090

What i loose:

- Lesser system storage 8gb vs 16gb
- Smaller Screen 4.6 vs 5.0
- Bloaty software vs vanilla

Which one should i go for guys?

Well ZR hardware specs seem a good buy at 16K . If you are not keen onto 5" screen and stereo speakers of the Moto G then you can take the ZR seriously.

I am using ZR for more than a year and there is no issue at all. Also I have once used it in water resort few months back, so no issue with water proofness also. Besides 2 gb ram is futureproof than 1 gb ram. However front camera is Vga so it's below today's standard for selfies; however it may be better for video call because it shall use less data IMO. Good luck.

except selfies, ZR is better HW. however, it may not 100% be lag free unlike motorola.

IMHo with 2 GB RAM you should not experience lag. but then android can throw up surprises anyday.

Go for the ZR. Have been using it for the past 10 months. No complaints at all. It was as good as Xperia Z which was the flagship at that time but with a smaller screen. 8 gb internal memory won't be a problem with expandable storage. The 13mp shooter is absolutely brilliant. It's almost 10 k less than what I had bought for. It's a very well built phone and kitkat 4.4 update is available. And trust me it has very minimal bloatware, atleast nothing compared to touchwiz. Go for it.

Thanks
Sunny

The higher RAM and graphics alone should be worth the upgrade. Smaller screen zaps lesser battery ofcourse.

While Sony UI isn't as efficient as stock Android UI, its still miles ahead of the likes of MIUI and Samdung.

All in all, go for the Sony. I believe you can add a microSD card as and when needed. 16GB cards are barely 500rs

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi there,

I am about to purchase a smartphone for my wife. Budget is within 10k. Both of us have been quite content with our current feature phones. This purchase will be a step into the 'spoilt for choices' smartphone category. Frankly, not able to really differentiate between the various models. Somehow (not by sound logic) narrowed down to Nokia Lumia 530/ 630, Moto E, Micromax Unite 2 A106. Not too sure about the choice between Android/ Windows.

Expectations from the phone
- Good display
- Less than 5" preferable
- Lag free operation
- Ruggedness and reliability
- Mail, whatsapp
- Not too particular about front camera or camera capabilities
- Will be keeping this atleast for 2-3 years. Would prefer a hassle free
ownership. Would not want to keep hunting for a service centre.

Would greatly appreciate your opinions/ views.

thanks

1. Forget Micromax and points 4, 7 & 8 will be taken care of, provided the mobile is operating under normal conditions.

2. Look for atleast 8gb of internal memory. 4gb is a disaster waiting to happen. I guess Moto E has 4gb of internal memory.

3. Look for a phone having Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. A 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is easily available in phones costing less than 10000/-

4. Windows or Android; spend 30 mins with the phone and decide for yourself. Both have their own pros and cons. I use ANDROID for other reasons, but am a great admirer of out of the box Windows 8.1

5. External memory atleast 64gb.

Based on your budget alone, my vote goes to Lumia.

These are just pointers, that too based on my experience.

Just placed an order for the Nokia Lumia 630 for my dad.

Ordered from Snapdeal at 6980/-, much lower than what it's listed for on Amazon and Flipkart.

Hoping it reaches before Diwali!
