If you would have spent just slightly more, you could have got the MUCH better Optimus Net instead!

Is anyone in Bangalore facing a problem with Airtel GPRS?

My phone is showing G at times (as opposed to E) and there hasn't been any connectivity since last night (that's when email was last updated).

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

A friend needs a cheap phone (upto 4000 bucks). I have shortlisted LG T500 so far. No preferences, just a nice phone would do. The reviews of LG T500 are overwhelmingly positive. Only problem is that it is an old model (Oct'11). Does anyone has a better recommendation? I rejected Samsung Champ due to loads of negative reviews. Nokia Asha 200/202 doesn't have a touch screen and hence not interested in it.

It is going to be very expensive - around 30k. Going to be here in next 2 months.

It should be out in May in India. India and Russia are the first countries in which it is getting released. Need to know the exact date though.

It's definitely releasing this month. Confirmed from two Nokia priority dealers.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

any idea about the price of Galaxy S2 (with BW and without) in Mumbai? Flipkart is selling it for 27900 and when I mentioned the same to one dealer, he offered it to me for 27000.
also, saw few ADs in OLX offering used (read imported) S2 for 22000 (probably can negotiate a bit) without BW; i think they get S2 from US off craigslist (available for 200 odd $) and sell it here for 20-22k making 4-5k margin per piece.
i am in need of a handset and shall buy within next few days.

If you can wait it should be better. The price of s2 is bound to decrease in a months time when it is released in the market. Why dont you check out moto razr xt910?

better to go for galaxy nexus prime(for fastest update releases) or some htc phones. Caution Samsung phones get boring over time because of the touchwiz interface. Already bored of it on my note after one month.

You can also check out htc sensation. Very good phone for the price. Awesome screen and fast processor.

EDIT: Oops I meant when S3 is released in the market.

Shops outside Chembur station sell the S2 for 26 k with bill. You may want to check it out. Also, i doubt if the prices of S2 will be reduced since S3 will be available for 35+ which is a different segment altogether.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Need some help, folks.

Need to buy a phone for mom and going through flipkart, I am super-confused now.

Criteria

1. Large screen display - she finds it hard to read smaller ones (I kept a min of 2 inches display)
2. Should be @ or below 5k
3. No need for extensive features - used mainly for calling
4. Long battery life
5. Should be able to take a bit of abuse

Shortlisted a few:

Spice Popkorn - M-9000

Nokia X2 02

Micromax Superfone Ninja A50

Samsung Metro Duos - c3322

I am leaning towards the Samsung as the reviews seem to indicate that its a simpler phone and its got a 2.2 inch screen. The Micromax A50 is just an afterthought.

Can you please suggest any others that come to mind?

Take the x2
Thats what i got for my mom
Its a Nokia so its easy to use, and can handle any sort of abuse

The display is nice, the font on the phone is large so makes it easy to read.

All in all a good phone under 5000.

Rest, i'd suggest take your mom to a mobile shop and let her choose what she wants

Hi folks,
I bought an iPhone 4
3 months back
Now i am facing a problem with it
Not exactly a problem, but i have noticed something recently.

The home button on my iPhone has become a bit lose.
I have an iPhone 3GS as well and the button on it is still firm and in its place.
I also checked with a friends year old iPhone 4 and the button had that firmness.

I contacted apple and went to the service centre.
They say they will replace my handset.
Now the thing is, that the replacement set which apple will provide me will not be a brand new piece but a refurbished one.
So it means i have no guarantee of getting a better piece or ending up with something worse.

Everything else on my phone works like a charm.
And there is no issue at all apart from the loose button.
The button in fact works fine but it doesnt have that firmness.

I am confused, shall i get my phone replaced or shall i continue using the same set. ?

Is there a possibility to get only the button replaced? If not, I would continue with the same phone until something really drastic happens.

I asked apple for the button replacement, but they say they dont repair there phone in india, they just collect the phone from the owner and ship it to singapore to their factory.
And there the phone goes under all the testing and is repaired accordingly.

I asked if i will be getting a new phone, to this they replied that the factory people change just the faulty parts in the phone and return it back to apple.

So the body panel, the screen, everything from outside remains just the same. If a phone was submitted having minor scratches on the phone, it will b returned as it was.

I even requested them to send my phone to singapore and it repairs and i'll wait for whatever time it takes to repair it.
They said it's against our policy.
All i could do is take back the phone with me.

So shall i go for a replacement ? Or cobtinue using the same set ?
Mine is just a 3 month old piece and till date it doesn't even have a single scratch.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

I'm in the market for a phone for my wife whose trusty nokia 5320 gave up the ghost recently

1. Q: Budget?
A: upto 20K

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?
A: Bar

3. Q: Preferred display type?
A: NA

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
A: Don't want a Samsung

5. Q: Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?
A: Touchscreen, Qwerty

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.
A: Any Camera

7. Q: Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A: Android/Windows/Symbian

8. Q: Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).
A: 3G, Wifi

9. Q: What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?
A: Making calls ! and the net occasionally

10. Q: Any other requirements?
A: A responsive touchscreen and non laggy interface

11. Q: If you have already considered a phone then please mention the model.
A: 1.HTC One V
2.Nokia 603
3.Sony Xperia U
4.Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i
5.Nokia Lumia 710

My wife has never used a touchscreen phone and hence UI and ease of use is paramount. The app store is not a priority.I'm tending towards NOT buying an xperia as I already have an xperia arc s and having a different OS would give me a new toy to play with .
