Hi guys,

Am a total mobile noob so would appreciate some help. I recently got a personal SIM card to complement my official blackberry. My needs are fairly simple: store decent amount of music and FM radio, bluetooth (or at least a decent hands-free), ability to browse internet seamlessly (teambhp and facebook in particular) and preferably a touchscreen. Budget up to 8K (slightly stretchable). Pls advise!

Since the budget is between 5k - 10 k. I would suggest you to try Samsung Wave 525 around 8k and Wave 533 9.2k (have checked wave 533 personally, i have been using samsung star for more than 18 months, felt wave 533 is way head of star)

As I said I have not used HTC but usually in all other consumer electronic devices, After encryption the encrypted file is a garbled stream of data.
So you can read / copy the file on PC but to get the data as in seeing the document / picture / video you need to decrypt first and at the time of decryption key/password is required.
If the behavior is same as described above it can be genuinly called encrypted file.

Reading your problem statement what you seem expect is password protection of file-system access when phone/card is mounted as USB drive. This use-case is known as access control security which is different then File encryption.

Urgent request.

My wife has been a Nokia user for all her mobile phone life (about 15 years). Her current N96 just died and she is looking for a new phone. Her applications are photography (kids, indoor) and SMS (she sends and receives about 60-70 SMSes per day). Price Rs. 25-40K.

1. Must have a good camera with auto focus
2. Preferably a QWERTY keyboard
3. Must have a memory card slot for her video and photos.

Choices I have offered her
1. Nokia N8 - great camera but a touch screen so SMSes might be tricky
2. Nokia N97 mini - average camera but has a QWERTY keyboard but DATED
3. BlackBerry Torch - average camera like the N97 but hey we'd both have the same phone (I use a Torch too) but she will have to unlearn Nokia and swtich to BB menus.

Question marks
1. Nokia E7 - no auto focus which MIGHT mean that quick shots of kids in indoor lighting are blurred (also it is not yet available)
2. HTC Desire Z - who is HTC. We have no experience with it's reliability
3. SE X2/Vivaz (Pro) - Do these models even have any traction in Mumbai/India? I dont see them anywhere. Has SE lost the plot?

What does the X8 have that the N8 does not? I dont think it has a QWERTY keyboard does it?n my view the N8 currently has probably the best camera in the mobile phone world. If only it had a numeric keypad or QWERTY keyboard it would have been her ideal phone.

The encryption is just fine. The key to encryption is not. It's attached to the phone, not in a password that I can remember. So if the phone is lost, the data is accessible to anybody. if the phone is hard reset, the data is lost forever.

But I found out that the first time I set it up on a computer, it does ask for a password, provided the phone lock is also enabled. I will test it again, but that gives me some comfort.

However, if the phone lock is not enabled, it's still open to data theft.

Why don't you consider Samsung Wave? Fits the bill perfectly except for QWERTY keyboard. If you can wait, you can go for Wave II which will be released sometime in January in India. To compensate for QWERTY keyboard, it comes with T9 Trace which makes writing messages a breeze..

They are listed in the Sony India website, so try contacting the nearest Sony showroom. BTW, X2 has the Windows Mobile OS.

Guys saw the Samsung Marine solid built but the keys are not tactile to my liking also the OS is a pain to operate, too many steps, guess Nokia has spoiled me for long.

Please help with other suggestions. I need a nice rugged simple phone (long talk time and simple display with good keyboard) for everything else I have an iPod. Thanks!
