Yes Monte is a feature phone and not a full smart phone (with support for installable applications). Wave is first one over Bada.
Wave seems best suited for all your needs, except for "editing" part. So take a call based on how important that feature is for you.
Or if you can wait, then look for wave-2, which will come with slide-out qwerty keyboard as well.

Nokia 5230

Hello!

Yesterday I bought a month old Nokia 5230. Since its only a month old (with bill) it has warranty left. I got it for Rs5500/-, which I think is not bad.

The sole reason to buy a new phone was to have a gps in the phone. But I am totally not tech savy hence I have a few questions to ask.
  1. I could not find any maps on the phone, do I have to download maps from OVI? Can I also download maps from Google?
  2. If I have maps downloaded in the phone, do I still need to have a gprs connection to navigate or will the phone then work like a car gps?
  3. I do not intend to download movies. Just keep about 100 songs and about 100 photo in the phone + ofcourse the maps and a few misc items. Is 2gb mini sd card enough for all this?
  4. When I connect the phone with the pc it asks for a cd-rom. I did not get any cd-rom with the phone. Now what do I do?
Thanks and regards

There is no opbvious mention of a CD in the box list at the Nokia India site.

The necessary PC Suite can be downloaded from there or their associate site.

Nokia has put their PC Suite software on the memory card of the phone, doing away with the CD. If your phone's memory card has not been formated by anyone after purchase, it should still be there.

Set the phone to USB mass storage device, and connect it with the provided USB cable to the computer - USB mass storage drivers are build into all versions of Windows starting Win Me, so you should be good to go!

Get any Symbian 9.3 S60 (v3 or v5) Nokia, and buy Total Call Recorder 4.20

1) Yes you need to download the maps from OVI.
2) Yes, you need a GPRS signal for map tile download on the fly, if the downloaded maps dont have the specific map tile. ( as told by someone else in response to my query ).

cheers!

Thanks Srini!!

So how do I get "the specific map tile" ( btw I do not understand what a map tile is) so that I do not have to use gprs?

Or I will have to use GPRS in which ever way I download maps?

Thanks and regards!!

@deky, Just install the map application from Nokia. When you use GPS, it will automatically download the maps with the GPRS connection you have. Once downloaded, the maps (location wise) will be used. Any new areas will be downloaded automatically.
So you need a GPRS connection that can be used always.

You can also download the maps on PC and transfer so that you dont have to incur GPRS charges.
