From the accessories list of Nokia website, the 7230 uses mini USB cable, CA101.
Nokia - Accessories - Nokia 7230 support

I think it should be costing around 100/- for a similar thing in the market. Try various mobile stores like the Big C, Univercell or the mobile stores.

You got it for the correct price as per Nokia . Normally the cell phone stores have a very small margin(well ridiculously small margin!!) in the sale of the piece. They mint money on the accessories. e.g. When the 1GB micro SD memory card was 1000/-, the purchase cost of it by the stores was around 100/-. I am not aware of the prices now though!! I guess 4GB or 8GB cards might have taken the place of the 1GB cards!!

I was looking at the same and similar other cables at ebay and gave you the price earlier. AFAIK, this on is just a physical converter of mini USB to mini USB. Can anyone clarify its just the contact points are changed or any other electronic components are inside the cable, something like a capacitor, transformer or some circuit board embedded inside??

It is just a cable connecting two types of USB slave connectors.
There are 4 pins outer two for + and GND with 500 mA max at 4.7 V and middle two for serial data. There is no other passive or active element inside.

Now people have debated endlessely why Monster gold plated HDMI cable is better then a no name 200 Rs HDMI cable in various AV Forums so same principle apply to USB cable of Nokia or any other brand so no point in discussing the price .

The trouble is that I am able to view some videos without any issues. However, a majority of them don't have video, only the audio plays. It would help if you can tell me which settings to play with. Have you tried a freeware called handbrake? This software is much faster in converting files. However, it has very few settings that can be played around with.
Alternatively, I tried looking for freeware players that would play avi or wmv files without conversion (since that would be faster However, I couldn't find any for the N 97.
Also wanted to add that if the conversion happens, the video plays fine on my PC. It is only on the N 97 that I don't see the picture, only audio.

Tool on the given link looks decent but as I said earlir what is the Audio codec you have selected and what is the sampling frequency and bitrate
?
From your problem it is clear that you are encoding audio in a format which N97 does not support.

As per N97 specification given on this link
Nokia Europe - Nokia N97 - Specifications

N97 supports
  • Music codecs MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, WMA
  • Bit rate up to 320 kbps
Have you selected AAC or MP3 in the tool you used ?

I would suggest use AAC and a low bitrate say 48.

I am using AAC but with 64 as the bitrate - as suggested by the blogger in the link I posted earlier. I'll try with 48 and check. But since it is playing audio, is it not a problem with the video settings?

There were some videos that came with the phone. I notice that they are in a DCF format. Should I be looking at converters to DCF?

Also the sampling frequency I've set it to is 44100 - again as per the recommendation made in the link in one of my posts above.

Just tried the 48 bitrate - end up with an error on Super. Now this is another problem I've faced with certain other videos. It doesn't not even complete conversion.

agree with amitk - paying 865+ VAT on CA101 is daylight robbery!

You can go to any chiense/lower end mobile dealer and buy the Zen/Fly mobile charger (it is a USB -> micro USB cord and fits better than Nokia's). Not more than 100 bucks fr sure!!

I've used the Fly cord for my nokia e63. works like a charm.

@the lightening.
I have bought the X6 just yesterday. Initial impressions are good. Being a music phone, the loudspeaker clarity is really good. Though the loudness is not one of the best around here, even then it is quite good.
One main con, the sunlight legibility is not good. If you are ok with that, then it is an excellent phone.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

@Sahil
The Nokia C3 hasn't arrived yet. The shopkeeper's reckoning is that it will arrive by the end of this month.

I need suggestion on the minimun budget I should set for a phone with the following features:
1. GRPS enabled(I have airtel unlimited gprs connection).
2. Very good signal reception. (I am currently using SE W200i, it doesnt have the signal reception as good as the previous phone, Nokia 1110)
3. At least 2" of screen.
4. Should have a document(.pdf, .doc, .xls, .ppt) viewer and able to download attachments.
5. Around 50MB internal memory / ROM / RAM.
6. At least 4 hours of talk time.
7. Should have a key pad, qwerty type preferred but not a compulsion but should be easy to use keypad. I liked the SE W200i keypad.
8. I prefer candy-bar design!!
9. Bluetooth 2.0.
10. Should be compatible with Opera mini browser.
11. Expandable memory (hot swap preferred)
12. Solid built, I normally like to keep my phone for atleast 3 years. I bought my SE W200i in April 2007.

Please suggest some options too.

I have Nokia C3(not yet launched but I normally like to wait at least 6 months after it is launched to see the phone doesnt have any issues) and Samsung corby TXT in my mind but I am not sure about the document viewer in them!!
