Did you try using handsfree i.e. both wired & BT ones? It should help you in the phone not getting damaged

SUV,

I used the Micromax Q3 - although a bit cutesy its quite decent and same budget. Why don't you use the BT headsets!

Seeing that my Nokias don't last longer than 10 months, I was wondering whether these new brands are worth going in for.

I wouldn't mind junking a 3000-4000 rupee phone after 10 months. But the question is, would they last for even that long?

I am now looking at qwerty keypads as I text a lot too. I know qwertys and sweaty humans don't gel well, but how bad can it get?
Maybe I should start using a bluetooth headset.

Or is there a reasonably feature-laden and priced phone that is resistance to overtly sweaty people.

The two locally branded qwerty phones that I am looking at are:
Welcome to Fly Mobiles | Products | B 430 DS

Fly's B430

and

Zen Z77

Zen Mobile's Z77

Thanks!
Did you checked out the Samsung Marine B2100. The company states it as a shock proof and water proof device. May be it can suit your requirement.

I like the deal for everything except the screen size. :(

Ear phones don't gel well with my ears. After using them for 15 minutes, it starts hurting quite a bit.
Plus, I hate carrying along a bunch of wires.

Do you think wireless ones would help?

How long does their charge last ideally?

Oh that's great. Can you please advice regarding the reliability of the Q3. It was one of the phones I was considering.

I have checked it out. I am hoping I don't have to resort to it!
IIRC the keypad wasn't very tactile either.

This is so confusing!

Can some sort of full body lamination be used on qwerty phones? Actually I used a Blackberry for a few days recently and am totally sold out to the idea of a qwerty keypad!

A good handsfree is what you need.

I have a Sony Ericsson DS200 Bluetooth Stereo Headset. It has a standard 3.5mm jack to which you can connect any standard headphone/earphone/external speakers which you find comfortable.

I use it to listen to music while jogging/walking. The sound quality is amazing.

This can also be used to make and receive calls, the call quality is crystal clear.

Similar products are available from Nokia and Samsung also.

Battery life quoted is 3-4 hrs. I have never used it continuously for more than 2 hrs, so can't guarantee beyond that. But you can always charge it when the battery level drops. (There is a small display which provides battery indication)

This should work with any phone with Bluetooth (A2DP profile).

Using a handsfree also frees your hands for texting while talking.

Nokia BH504 has a talktime of 10 hours. Nokia India - Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-104 - Specifications has the info. It works as much in real life too.

The Q3 is with an acquaintance. Of course, its not the E63's feel, but does most of the jobs though I'd honestly advise you to pony up 6000 bucks for a blackberry 8707g and get real solid reliability and ruggedness

Can any one give an idea. My budget is 10k.
The phone should have touch screen, big screen ,camera,FM radio etc.
Samsung star 3G is made for you. 3G, full touch, good form factor, OK camera.

Overall, a good economy touch phone.

What is the case with Ovi Map of nokia. Though it is not as detailed as Google it is free. And for metros like Chennai it rivals Google as far as accuracy, details and features is concerned.

Any inputs?

There is more...

That propensity to talk long
is actually known to pump up systolic blood pressure,
which will damage your most precious possession -- your health.

You may like to work on it and try email, SMS and instant messaging instead.

Just my suggestion.

Oh! I did not know that a Blackberry can be had for that low.

This gives me something to think about.

I think I should get my 3600 Slide repaired (600 bucks estimated cost) and save up for a BlackBerry.

Thanks a lot Ram. I am actually trying to cut down on it. I already suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Its time I start taking serious care of my health.

Thanks again guys.

Deep down south (Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Sivakasi, etc) Nokia-maps are poor, only the highways are shown. Google-maps are far superior. Chennai Nokia-maps may be better, also it has voice-navigation whereas Google-maps does not.

Also Nokia-maps may not need a continous gprs connection unlike Google-maps.

: Guys anybody has the new firmware update V 40.* installed on their 5800? Or any other symbian phone? I googled and many people are complaining about its stability. My 5800 came with V 30.* installed. I can not move on to new OVI maps until I update my firmware to V 40.*. Please let me know should I move on to V 40.*?

I am on V40 on my Nokia 5800 and apart from few bugs which arent replicable the firmware is pretty stable and also gives me great battery life.
