@ Ext Torque : Never had any issues in my phone though. Used it extesively with Blackberry Connect, & this also has 256 MB RAM, so may be yeah 64 would be quite less.

Dont know why I never like Nokia's , other one I use is Blackberry 8900

@sam - The P1i has 128 MB if I am not wrong. As far as SE is concerned, no matter how good their phone is, I aint buying one. Its just personal.

Please do not post erroneous information. The P1i had 128MB of RAM.

@extreme_torque: I'm with you on this one. The way they handled owners of the P990 was just inexcusable. I just sold my Satio and don't plan on buying another SE anytime soon, unless the X10 is released with trouble free firmware, an art that SE's engineers seem to have lost during the past couple of years.

Guys, I need suggestions to buy a phone for under 7k, preferably a Nokia.

Key requirement is battery back up for calls and some texting. No frill usage, namely music, video etc (occasional only). Internal memory is also important for a big phone book and text storage.

How is the Nokia 6303?

Also, I use a Nokia 6300 (poor battery back up I must say) and it's become slow. The stats are:

V 06.01
16-01-08
RM-217

Stupid question but can anything be done, like an upgrade to the firmware or something?

Nope, I was scared SE would probably release an even buggier FW, so I got rid of the bugger as soon as I could. Things aren't very rosy at the moment and a lot of users have been complained about R1CA not fixing some of the critical issues. An example of a stupid bug that hasn't been fixed in the latest release FW - If you have 2 or more music files with different artists but with the same album name, the media player displays the same album art for all those files!

Life's blissful with a Hero these days.

Restore the phone to factory settings and update the FW to v7.30 which I believe is the last release. Use NSU for that. If v7.30 doesn't show up, change the location code using NSS and then update.

Please can you explain step by step? Thanks!

Check your firmware by pressing *#0000# on your home screen. The latest is 7.21 for the 6300. You can get it by connecting your phoneto your computer and using the nokia software update, which you will find in your nokia pc suite (which you can download if you don't have). It should improve your phone performance. But if your heart is stuck on a new phone the 6303 will suit your needs, you can also look at 2730 classic.

That apart are there any serious bugs in the phone still left? How is the audio quality and responsiveness of the touch screen given that its resistive. How is the overall responsiveness given that the hardware is the same as Omnia HD, Nokia N900 and the iphone 3GS. One of my very good friend is getting a 2 month old Satio for 18k's and he is very very interested, only I am stopping him! :P

Err, you're comparing two resistive based phones (N900, Satio) with capacitive ones (Omnia HD, iPhone) and there's always going to be a difference in the way the two technologies interact with the user.

There aren't any total showstopper bugs in the Satio per se, just a lot of niggling issues. A few that I can think of off the top of my head that haven't been resolved yet - if you click a lot of photos (which you're bound to given that this is a 12MP phone), it's highly possible newer pictures won't show up at all. This is a bug with the Satio media app FW. I believe the phone can hold only about 1000 photographs; sometimes, the camera doesn't start up and just displays a blank screen; Youtube videos freeze after playing a few videos, possibly a memory leak somewhere; spot metering is absent from the new FW; still no equalizer; handwriting messages sometimes results in a total freeze that can be resolved only by removing the battery; viewing snaps in the gallery is quite laggy etc.

On the plus side, I think battery life has increased significantly compared to the virgin FW. That's the only plus I can really think of.

I have used a 5800 and iPhone 3G in the past and currently own a N900 and based on my experience, the Satio's screen is more responsive (sensitive) than a 5800 but less than the N900 and its capacitive counterparts (Omnia HD etc.). However, in terms of screen sharpness, I would rate iPhone>Satio>N900>5800.

Audio quality is pretty good and you won't notice any differences in the SQ compared to an iphone when using a stereo BT headset, unless you want to play with an equalizer which is missing in the Satio. The bundled earbuds are crap, just like any other earphone provided with any phone. If you're talking about the loudspeaker, it's slightly tinny but surprisingly loud for a mono unit (hasn't got stereo speakers).

18K is a pretty decent price for a used Satio. I sold mine for 24K about a month back.

Sorry about the long post.

Nokia in that price range for requirements : E71, E52(quite a classy phone) , N79 (more of a multimedia phone). Didnt mention any touch phones cause Nokia's touch technology and OS are not at par with other makers.

Thanks so much guys, I upgraded the firmware last night and it was a breeze. Will soon know how much of a difference has it made in the general 'working' of the phone, but psychologically it feels faster

Ishaan the 6303 is another purchase, for my dad. Since I have not got any suggestions on my previous post, I'm quoting again.
