well to put it in simplest of the words
E63 - Platic Body : E71 - Metal Body
This Makes E63 a few grams lighter.
E63 - 2mp Camera : E71 - 2.3mp Camera
Both suck big time, nothing as compared to camera in SE and leave aside the Digi Cams
E63 - No GPS : E71 - Has GPS
E63 - 3.5mm Jack : E71 - 2.5 mm Jack

Bought an e71 today at Planet M store.

The phone looks great and will start testing out the features in the weekend.

Just tested the GPS and it works fine.

Cost was 20500 inclusive of a nokia bluetooth headset. Also got a 2GB memory card free (in addition to the 2GB card which is included in the E71 package) and a gift voucher of Rs.350.

Planet M also offered me a 2 year warranty during which i can give my mobile to their store for service and repairs without having to go the nokia service center. During this period they give you another phone to use until the mobile is returned after service.

Apparently the mobile business in Planet M is being owned by Videocon group and all these are promotional activities carried out by them .

Anyways going by the owrd in Internet we might be getting the Sennheiser HD 202 Headphone.

Also as per the nokia dealer the phone will officially made available in market from Feb onwards.
Dnt know how credible is that.

@sinner,vibhu The 5800 is one hell of a phone. Will kick the iphone anyday. My cousin is using one from the past one week and it is amazing.
Good to know that nokia's touch interface has improved.

Guys I have used iPhone 2G and loved it. Especially loved the surfing and mail over wifi, didnt even have to open my lappy at home. However given a choice, I wouldnt want to own one again (kinda bored).

Do you suggest I should wait for 5800 or go ahead with E71?

Also not strictly apples to apples, how does Blackberry 8320 compare with E71. I just find the UI of E71 very Nokiaish. The point here is that I cant get my official mails on Blackberry (access given to very senior management) and I will not waste 1000 a month to get gmail access on Blackberry. Also I have not taken Vodafone Office as it is terribly slow compared to wifi so whichever phone it is, the access will be over wifi only. I have read on the forum that mails on blackberry cant be accessed over Wifi and only the default browser on 8320 (which is pathetic) will work on Blackberry. Also 8320 is not 3G. So I am more inclined towards E71.

Inputs please!

@wanderernomad, for the email, if you don't mind spending about 30-32$ on a 3rd party software app, the LCG Profimail (recently hit v3.01, adding IMAP-IDLE and other features) will give you almost instant email delivery through IMAP-IDLE. Downsides are that you need an unlimited connection (to keep the mailbox connected all the time), and the battery gets used up faster (at least 20-30% faster).

You can have as many mailboxes as you want configured on Profimail. Profimail works great on the E71 and other Symbian phones.

I've been using it for more than a year and I'm quite happy with the functionality. It hit 3.01 about a month back and since then the experience is even better. If you expect to process under 30-40 emails a day, this should be good enough (a/a Blackberry services). I get just about so many, with immediate (short) replies needed for just 10-15 emails or so. I have the non-IMAP email boxes forward the email to a gmail account and download the email from that gmail account.

Rookie here. Having never owned a smart phone / PDA, my knowledge is very limited; so kindly bear with me.
First off, are smart phones and PDAs the same?
I am looking for a phone that,
1. Resembles the SE 910i / 990i (doesn't have to be SE, can be Nokia too) I even like the E71's looks.
2. Has good talk time / battery life
3. Is VFM
4. Has a decent camera
4. Allows me to store a decent bit of data

Phone's primary usage: calls & text messaging. Would also like to be able to access the internet to check email; nothing more.
Kindly suggest what my options are.

Is the user charged by the service provider each time he accesses the internet (for anything - checking email, GPS, etc)?
Can email be checked even when out of country? What charges apply?
Do these phones work similar to a laptop, meaning that you would need some kind of a connection to get online? If WiFi is not available at a particular location / place, is there any other way to get online?

Hi guys !

Got my 5800 today ! Its everything that i expected it to be.. I am not disapointed at all . Tough some of my friends who have the i phone dint like it at all !

+ves
>>Symbian 60series
Iam addicted to it ! cant use any other platform!

>>Battery life
Still running on out-of-box battery charge level..lasted 3/4 day on 2 lines of charge !

-ves
>>Touch interface
The touch interface is not as responsive as the i-phone's .. you need to use your nail to type messages . but iam quite happy !

>>slow
My previous phone was a e71.. the 5800 is not as fast, but liveable !

>>Build quality
Not as good as the iphone .. Have used a n81 before which had the same kind of back pannel , started squeaking after some rough use !

Verdict -
If you like symbian , you will fall in love with the phone .. otherwise you might even hate it !
