My wife's mobile was stolen along with her bag from the storage space of her scooty. So I need to buy a mobile for her and she does not want an expensive one. I am not a mobile gadget guy myself and so I am quite confused about which one to buy.

The features I am looking for in the order of preference:
  1. Long battery life
  2. Other regular features like a good phone book etc.
  3. FM Radio with speakerphone - does not need to be an MP3 player.
  4. Camera (at least 2 mega pixels) - flash is optional as I think they are very basic anyway. And digital zoom - not really interested in that.
  5. Dual Sim capable (not necessarily dual technology like GSM and CDMA, but dual GSM would do) - this is optional as I could switch sim cards manually.
No particular brand preference but the phone I have and the one my wife had were both Sony Ericssons.

Please suggest some budget phones that meet these criteria.
Am I asking for too much for too little?

Hey pjbiju,
Considering your previous phones are SE & Sony Ericsson is my favourite,
id suggest SE Model - T250i going by your preferences.
Then the rest depends upon your budget.
It doesnt have dual sim but i think that hardly any phone has that.
Only 2 specific phones have that.

I'd only suggest K750i or now W810i. If K750i, upgrade to SPU1.4b2 camera driver, the most amazing cam driver around by miles

DUAL sim, is possible only in chinese fones. Why not spend 1k more for an aditional fone? And no, avoid crap like the J120i - no good to man or beast !

3 Questions:
1> Do SE phones have this?

2> Am planning on buying the K810i or 790i.
Do these phones have camera driver updates as well?

3> Also, Can i do this to my P910i ? (Its already the latest firmware)

1. Yeah yeah, SE phones are extremely mod friendly. Now i'm hunting for a battery life mod
2. Its a ten min job at MAX!! Number1 2.9 series, k790/k800/k810 camdriver, (NEW 2.99 last update) : Software : Sony Ericsson @ Esato has a camdriver you'd like.
3. Google/check esato, se-nse.net

A friend wants to purchase either N70 or N72.
Which is better?
Which one hangs more?

Neither hangs at all, unles you put in too many / untested applications. N72 would be better, since N70 does not provide any overriding advantages (forget the VGA front camera - unless you really want to make a video call)

Am now using an N70 ME. Yes. My phone do hang at times.Heard that its common with N70. But it is better than N72. Imho, N70 sports a better screen when compared to N72. Also, its a phone for rough use. N72 has this glossy camera cover which tends to get scratched often..But N70 has a matt black cover which wont get scratched that easy. Also, you will get a 1GB memory card + music edition head set. I advice you to go for an N70.

At airports, one overhears so many people making mobile calls, when they probably
have nothing to say in the first place.

The calls, one suspects, are made to people who never care anyway,
that...
  • the flight is on time,
  • they have gotten an aisle seat,
  • the airconditioning in the security checked lounge has failed,
  • Anupam Kher is traveling on the same flight...
Now Air France has become the world's first airline which allows mobile phone use on some specially equipped aircraft.
This usage is now allowed for SMS, MMS, E-Mail only.
In the coming months, Air-France will also allow phone calls during flights.

So in future, people will be able to share that:
  • the toilet in the plane is occupied,
  • what the airline menu serves today,
  • the red miniskirted stewardess is pretty,
  • etc.
Does:
pumping up an expensive mobile phone bill mean you have a better quality of life?

Prices change from day to day and shop to shop.

My experience is: On the day when you've decided to buy, go to the biggest store chain in your town, that sells mobile stuff exclusively.

That's where you'll get the cheapest price on an officially imported phone with bill and warranty.

Small stores may have only one piece that hasn't sold for sometime. Or may source it locally, after you go to their store.
