Spy video camera with recorder for car

Guys I want to fit a small camera in my zen's rear view mirror with a recording facility, so that it can record whatever comes infront me during ride. The camera should be a small one with good picture quality, can record videos in a HDD/flash drive in real time and should run on car battery. Can anybody tell me is there any readymade kit is available? If required to be assembled, tell me about the required hardware and software and estimated price.

Re: Spy video camera with recorder for car

Reviving an old thread:

Does anyone use a Car Black Box (Camera + GPS) event recorder?

There are several options available on eBay and Amazon, I was wondering if anyone has used on India and what has their experience been?

There are also apps available for your smartphone, but I wanted a dedicated Car Black Box.

Re: Spy video camera with recorder for car

I think this is fast becoming a necessity in India in the absence of CCTV cameras all over the place like they have abroad.
Given the lawlessness on the roads and the inveterate habits of these devils to frame people in traffic related issues if any.
I believe this, going forward it will be an invaluable help to demonstrate hard evidence in courts of law.

Re: Spy video camera with recorder for car

The device I bought was with dual cams, g force sensors and gps. Costed me 20k INR.
Even though the hardware was finished good, the software that came along with it for use with the PC was a real turn off. Wot I meant was the video file output was in their own cryptic format and the player had a lot of issues. Moreover the software was designed for WinXP and there was no support. I mailed them but never got a proper reply. I think someone from Korea replied to my mails..

It s now lying idle at my home :(

Now, I am looking around for a video cam with a gforce sensor, gps etc, to have a proper video log with the route traced on the google map..

Anyone has any ideas?

Re: Spy video camera with recorder for car

Guys, Need your opinion, especially from folks who have an in-car mounted video recorder. I saw this one on Aliexpress that seems within my budget and also serves the simple purpose of recording. What do you think..from the product description is it worth it?

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-S...774178698.html

One aspect I don't like is that it needs to be plugged into the car socket at all times - I am concerned at having a loose wire dangling down the windscreen if I mount it high up. Instead is it feasible to mount it extremely low just where the windscreen starts. Objective is to have some video evidence if god forbid I am in a bad situation where I was not to blame.

On a related note, how effective are these suction devices?

When I was in Singapore I saw cabbies using cheap recorders attached to IRVM. They find it useful for insurance claims.

Re: Spy video camera with recorder for car

Cheap cams will be useful only to see what happens infront of the car or in the FOV, but if you are looking for something that can read the number plates, fast dynamic color adjustment (sometimes cheap camera will give only a glare image due to the light coming from the opposite side), good/reasonable night view etc., you need to spend atleast 70-90$. One VFM camera is Mobius Action Cam available for 70$ and is a well reviewed product and good community support. It can be bought from the manufacturer's eBay.com store.

Here is what I have used, the product is called "mini 0801". I wanted something discrete but with LCD.

My tips for buying (and also why I selected the above):

- Since you can't test the installation before buying, please do adequate research to see how the final installation will look before buying. If you are not careful, you might end up buying a bulky unit.

- Length of the charger cable

- Charging port in your car. It should ideally be powered off when the ignition is off - or the dashcam might be running 24x7 instead of just during the journey.

- Usability will be a pain without LCD

- Internal storage + SD card. In case you take SD card to copy files and leave it at home, the dashcam can switch to internal storage.

- The usual specs like image quality, GPS, etc. but most products offer decent specs.

Thanks a lot. I have zeroed my choices to the GS8000 and the G1W based on a few online videos and this very helpful site

http://dashcamtalk.com/

both cost between 30-45 dollars. I'm now trying to find out if the GS8000 supports auto-on and off.
