I realise that. Do you know if we could have it to remain online ? Whatsapp continues to run and sync while locked.

That's because Whatsapp has what I call a keep alive feature. If you notice even after you exit Whatsapp, when you press the volume up or down buttons there is a play menu with a radio tower sort of symbol. That is the Whatsapp keep alive mode which runs in the background. Skype doesn't have that feature as yet. So as of now you cannot keep Skype alive in the background.

Thank you. This phone will primarily be used for voice chat over the internet. Gtalk/Skype and the like. Can you suggest an app that will remain online and can serve my purpose.

I'm not really sure as I don't do voice chat over internet. And if I have to then I just use Skype. But most of my chat times are pre-determined.

You can use IM+ for gtalk and some other IM messengers. IM+ works well in the background (phone locked) about 80% of the time.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Those who are having WP8 and WP7.8, is Zune still required to copy media files on phone? I was hearing that Zune will be no longer required.

An interesting article about the working of WP 7.5's background tasks.

Twitter, Rowi, and Whatsapp use MPNS, which is why you will get an instant notification when someone contacts you. Conversely, Skype does not receive push notifications in the background (but it could!) which is why you can only receive messages and calls while it is running and on screen

Zune is not needed for WP8, but it is needed for WP7.8. In WP8 you can copy files using windows explorer also.

Last update I had heard of was January last week. Don't know if this still holds good.

Its available through nokia care. Not sure if other devices have got their updates.

But my question:
How is it that Nokia care has the 7.8 version for upgrade, whereas nowhere else, people are reporting updates or official launches? Even the nokia website does not mention about the latest software release. They state that the latest version for the lumia is ****.12121 However, I have 8858.12460 installed in my phone.

Another thing is that, I expected more functional upgrades rather than just a new home screen and bluetooth share app. Guess I have to upgrade to a WP8 phone.

Samsung Galaxy S3 is now selling for 30k with bill. iPhone 5 at 45k. Xperia Z is coming next month end.

At 40k it will become a sales dud. Even at 30k it will still have to struggle to get good sales. But might manage.
