Still no news of a free upgrade for Vista shrink packed users! :(
I think there was some speculation, of some cut-off date. After this all Vista buyers would get free upgrade.

I don't remember where I read that. . .

If it is sometime around 2007 Jan, then I might get lucky!

(Wishful thinking, isn't it! )

Hi all, I am also a happy user of Windows 7 now for more than 2 weeks. I have installed this in my office laptop and my old desktop. Old desktop didnt giv me Aero but my lappy did. I am using the RC. Highlights,
1. Awesome taskbar.
2. Awesome wallpapers and themes.
3. Awesome sound schemes, I personally use the delta thou.
4. Less intervention of UAC. Pats to MS.
5. Most of the softwares work, but not all firewall and antiviruses.
6. Awesome boot and login screen.
7. Aero peek is too good.
8. Bootup, wake from sleep time is pretty fast.

My laptop has now, Win XP, Vista Business and Win 7. All 3 works gr8, Win 7 is my choice.

Please how do you get flash drives etc to work on W7 ?

I can hear the noise when I plug it in which indicates it has recognised. After that I can't see any drive letter for the flash drive in Computer. In XP the OS used to assign a drive letter automatically. Nothing wrong with the flash drive as it works on all my XP machines.

Thanks in advance.

Flash drives works fine. Its assigns everything automatically.

I am pretty amazed by windows 7 to say the least. I hooked up my WD 1TB drive & Zen Creative player and windows 7 detected them instantly and installed the drivers. Didn't even asked for CD for Zen Creative drivers.

Another thing is its very fast & stable. Faster than windows vista and as fast as XP if you don't use AERO etc.

Playing Older games is a problem on windows 7 just like vista.

abhibh,

It makes the noise to signal you have connected something but after that nothing in computer to show the drive. This is the RC W7, I had the beta version on another machine and that used to work fine and show the drive for flash drives.

Is it Kingston drive ?

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and see if it shows up there too.

Then Check in Device manager and remove the drive safely (eject) from windows. Remove the drive from USB, restart system and plug it in.

See if that works.

Thanks for your help. Just tried my old pen drives and it works fine with them. Tried with a USB SD card reader and same problem with that. I will try your suggestion and let you know if it works.

Windows 7 Installation Error "No Device drivers"

"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK"

I am getting this error right at the start of installation. Have googled all over the Net, seems to be a common problem faced by many!

Example, see here :
http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-...e-drivers.html

and here ..
Windows 7 Release Candidate Installation Error locating CD/DVD Drivers

or here ..
http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-...ver-issue.html

I have tried burning the ISO on 8x, 6x and even 2x but none of them are working. Tomorrow, will be trying burning it on another machine or perhaps installing it via an external DVD drive. Till then, any inputs will be most welcome. I'm exasperated !! :(

Try installing through USB- faster, hassle-free... but your motherboard should support booting from USB drives.

Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7?Even on a Netbook

You need a hotmail/ msn/ live login...
