Friends,

have been reading about the 6K off on exchange of old laptop/tv etc for the iMac or the MacBook etc.

Is this any good? Is anyone using the new iMac/MacBook here and can share if it is worth the money? Would there be issues with BSNL dataone connectivity etc etc?

I used a MacBook (the white one) some 4-5 years ago and since have lost touch with the happenings in the Apple World.

Hi, guess I am pretty well placed to answer your query. I use a MacBook Pro as well as an iMac.

The deal is good. Take it.

However do not touch the Mac Air. While it's sleek it does offer much in terms of connectivity and ports.

You will have no issues with either the iMac or MacBook Pro as along as you are connecting through ethernet cable or wifi. However, most data cards are not compatible with the Mac. Sierra555 is out of production and that was a great device. However you can connect to BSNL/Airtel/Reliance using a Dongle that attaches to the USB Port

Hope that answers your query

Any apple computer can be bought with eyes closed.

I have one previous gen imac, a powerbook and a macbook pro. All working fine. never had any one hang. My powerbook has not hung once in three years. No scares about viruses.

There's no issue with connectivity. Infact the mac recognizes the service and no config required as in case of windows. Easiest thing in the world to use.

Any windows program you have, will work on the mac although the mac offers better and more stable replacements.

Buy the mac and then come to me. I will load it up with all the goodies.

If you can source one from the US, it'll be even more cheaper.

MACs rock!cheers:

Sounds too tempting an offer. If I buy the Mac, I will bring it along the next time i am in Mumbai.

Done deal mr shahnawaz! We'll have another get together. The kind of software i have for mac is awesome. I'll get banned from here even mentioning it. Buy the mac and we'll meet up.

NOTE: Don't pay anything for any software after buying the mac. Most of it is inbuilt and you can start using your mac immediately unlike a windows where you have to install drivers, office, antivirus, etc (which takes 3-4hrs:Frustrati). The sales guy will try to stick some 4-5k softwares offers to you. I'll give you better stuff for free.

KS, where are you buying it from? What's the MRP?

@Tejas: You could think of adding Apple Mac also in your signature. lol:

@KS: Can you please give the details of the configuration?

Don't know. I will be visiting various apple showroom this weekend to find out the config details & pricing. Wanted some info before I made the trip to the showrooms.

@KS

Let me know the final config you select and the best price offered. I know of a wholesaler here who normally gives me 10% off.

And always, ALWAYS pay and take the extended 3year warrantee. Absolutely worth it.

Thanks Tejas for the input. Will surely keep this in mind.

Cheers,

Yes, every MAC fanatic says these. :D

KS, first decide on your requirements and then check their price. As I see a MAC store is an ideal place to confuse your views and choices.

I bought the new iMAC a year ago when the new model was just launched. It really depends on what you use it for. My wife has a PC and a MAC. For he architecture stuff, since she has the software that runs on Windows (i bought it a few days before the new version of OS that supports running Windows apps came out, so dont have it - it is standard now) she uses the PC. But on the MAC, the resolution and colors are so much better (of course depends on the graphics card and the monitor you have on the PC - but it will cost you), and for stuff like creating DVDs, websites etc, the iLife is great. iWorks is great if you want some good visualization with apps similar to Windows, but that is priced extra.. I think it is worth the buy - it is a beauty from the product design perspective as well.. It does getting used to especially if you have been brought up on Windows..

I get calls for techsupport from my wife for the PC, but never for the MAC ;)
