its a bit complex, but here are the connections

1. Front left and Right RCA out -> RCA to stereo adapter
2. RCA to Stereo adapter -> Stereo splitter 1
3 Stereo Splitter 1 -> front l/r of speakers, Stereo splitter 2
4 Stereo Splitter 2 -> rear l/r of speakers, centre/sub of speakers

wondernomad-after all the connections,make sure you change the setting of the dvd player, you have to change the mode to dolby digital or dts.have you done that???

Here's the catch, if he does that, he'll get 'left' channel from the center speaker and 'right' from the sub, which could infact sound odd.

yup, i know that , but something is better than nothing right
else a lot of wiring and resistors , and possibly capacitors will be involved which is beyond what most people can do!
