Edit @ Hydra - I could not even restore phone settings, contacts or msgs. Applications was far fetched. Just to inform other I could successfully restore all back up on another E71 which had the earlier firmware.
Do you mean the version 210.21.006? Dated 02-03-2009? My E71 has this firmware and after reading your review, I am having thoughts whether to upgrade to the 200.21.118 version.

A colleague of mine is having 200.21.118 on his E71. He was also facing frequent re-booting problem. He visited the Vodafone store and they replaced his SIM card. Now the problem has disappeared. I am wondering what was the real root of the problem!

And can users please provide answers to the following?

I don't have an E71 but an N82. But these two questions I can answer. I exhausted the 3 months subscription and after that I was using Google Maps 2.0 for commuting. There was no route navigation nor voice, but still I could figure my way out myself. I have used it extensively while reaching Coorg. But it was a pain really. I was really eying the Sat Guide which costs 2099 (Lifetime) for voice-based navigation and works on Symbian and Windows Mobile. A couple of months ago I was told by a friend in Google that by upgrading to Google Maps 3.0 I could soon get route navigations (get directions from point A to B) I upgraded just before my trip to Goa, and voila! It worked! I could find my way around North Goa's streets quite comfortably hopping from one village to the other. There is navigation but without voice. Try it! Its free. (I mean you don't have to pay Google like you would pay Nokia) It should work with your pay per use connection. I have been using it with my Aircel Thrills Postpaid GPRS access point which is like 10 paise every 10kB data transfer.

On the zero rental Vodafone Live, you cannot get push email. You need to activate Advanced GPRS for push mail capability.

With the Basic GPRS, you can use Gmail and Yahoo's native Symbian clients. You can download these by pointing your phone's browser to http://gmail.com/app and get.go.yahoo.com

Eddy, If you like E71, Keep a watch on its prices as they will start a downward slide in a month or so. Nokia has reveiled E71 successor E72. E72 is on its way and would be released later in the third quarter of 2009 and would be priced at $450 (give or take $50).

Eddy - I agree to this comment from karan. I was contemplating between E71 and E63 and ended up buying the E63 recently. The only difference between both these versions are steel body of E71 against plastic of E63, GPS availability and 3.2 MP camera in E71 against 2 MP camera in E63. The price difference between both versions was approximately 6k and that tilted the scale in favour of E63. Rest of all the features are almost same and you wouldnt find any difference what so ever. E63 is a very good buy.

the only problem i had with e 71 is that you cannot erase a single call entry from call log. you will have to erase the full log which inturns smells something fishy to parents

I've been using an E71 for some time now. Great phone. But the better camera and GPS does not justify the premium over the E63. I didn't know about the E63 when I went shopping otherwise I would have bought it. If you don't need the GPS, go for the E63.

you can definitely delete individual call entries from the log. Just press the green call button to enter the log. Then select the no to delete and press the backspace with the x key. Simple.

Chose the E51 over the E71 some time back because some of my colleagues told me that the UI hangs quite often. Is that still the case?

Just take the phone to the service center and ask them to flash it. The problem will be solved. The problem was with the initial versions of software.
