Is your ac Whirlpool Royale 1 ton (WAR12G30RW0)? Because that is the only 3 star ac listed on the company website in 1 ton class. I bought it about a month back for 15970/-. Could you please confirm if your ac is 2 star or 3 star rated.

And how are the shoes? Worth the trouble to go to the Reebok showroom and redeem the voucher?

Yes, Navneet, it is the Royale, 3 star, 50 kgs net, 54 kgs gross.
Good price, I know!

Haven't been to the Reebok showroom yet, but hey, it's a freebie! Never say no!

3. OGeneral 2 Ton (5 star) - Rs.47500
4. Mitsubishi Electric 2 Ton (5 star) - Rs.47000
5. Hitachi 2.2 Ton (Scroll compressor) - Rs.54000
6. Panasonic 2 Ton (4 star) - Rs.43000

Which one should I choose? Please share your inputs. I am planning to finalize the brand within this weekend.
Quick update: I have purchased a couple of units of Daikin FT60G (non inverter) AC @ Rs.41000/unit. Am planning to go in for Mitsubishi Starmex 2 Ton for the third unit - best price I could get is Rs.46500.

Our Samsung 2-ton has failed yet again.

In the past year or so (after warranty expiry) it has had leaks repaired and gas refilled, capacitors replaced, and now the compressor is not running: it "tries" but stops after a few seconds, so there is no cooling.

Our local mechanic is a hard man to get hold of!

Final update: Did not go for Mitsubishi and chose Carrier for the third machine. Got Carrier Estrella 2 Ton for Rs.40000. Will get all the 3 machines (2 Daikin and 1 Carrier) installed next week. I hope I chose the right kind of machines for the price I paid.

I would like to share one interesting thing that I found about Carrier's Estrella and Toshiba's Daiseikai AC range. Specs of similarly sized machines from both the brands are almost identical (size, weight, noise level and even the remote is similarly laid out). Only difference is that Estrella is specified to be slightly inferior in terms of cooling capacity & power consumption compared to Daiseikai.

As Carrier is marketing Toshiba, I am getting a feeling that the same product is being labeled as two models in India. Toshiba is ofcourse getting some filters & ionizers to justify the 10% additional cost over Carrier. But, this is weird.

Are there any 2T window a/c with atleast 3 star rating in the market.

The shop I went to displayes only 1 start and claimed that there are no 3 starts available. Is that true ?

Apparently the compressor needs replacing. Machine is just over three years old.

I don't know why there should be a problem replacing it with the Samsung part, but our mechanic says there is, and is proposing to replace it with a Hitachi compressor. I would have thought that could only be an improvement over Samsung. Anyway, I hope it is not a problem, as my wife has told him to go ahead.

I do not want to go to Samsung direct, as the last time they did warranty repairs for us I disliked the attitude and service standards of the company and, when we complained, Samsung's attitude was, "they cover your area, you don't have a choice". At least the local guy is just around the corner and known to us.

I'd say go ahead with this, Thad. Sounds like the better option.

And what a co-incidence: My 1.6 ton (LG Whizen) window AC's compressor has also conked just one month short of expiry of guarantee period (5 years)!
The LG service chaps attended and assured me it will be collected tomorrow and returned Monday, with a new compressor.

Should be fixed within two days.

As we have no idea how to judge the part, its authenticity, etc, any other way than using it, time only will tell.

Next time we have to buy, though, it will be General, Panasonic, or maybe even Hitachi, though, according to our financial situation, they are hugely expensive. What we know know, though, with both cars and AC units, is it is the long term that counts. Buying once is always going to work out cheaper than buying two or three times, even if it hurts signing that large cheque.

So true!
My old GE served for 15 years, till I retired it.
The National and the Hitachi have serious mileage on them, exceeding a decade!
The LG split, somehow, is still OK, having already served for six seasons.

LG and Samsung are both low quality. Okay to use as long as your city does not have "pollution issue".
So spend a bit more today and buy a voltas or whirpool.
If you really want an AC to serve long in corrosive environments, I think carrier is the only option.
That said, I am on a lookout to buy a AC.
Carrier 2 star costs same as the Voltas 3 star. I calculated, that I would be paying around 50rs extra in bills for the summer months, if I buy a 2* instead of 3*.
Three Star carrier costs 5000 more than voltas 3 star.
Shopkeepers(multi brand) are suggesting to get Carrier 2 star if I want corrosion resistance. They say it beats even whirpool and Voltas. LG and Samsung will last 3-4 years or at max 5 years in such an environment.

So any suggestions?
