Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Last week I sold the Bluestar portable AC after 5 years of use. Power bill is higher than usual, doesnt cool as well as split units. Needs a dedicated small window to throw out hot air. And yes, noisier than splits. But looks cute

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Friends, I was looking for a high efficiency ac and came across this model with ISEER of 5.85 :- Panasonic VU18AKYF . Does anyone know if this would be a good choice? Its being sold at a premium over all their 5 star ACs which have ISEER of only 5.10.

I have had multiple O General ACs and over time literally each and every one of them has had gas leakage multiple times and finally sold for scrap value so I don't want to repeat this brand. I have one Mitsubishi Electric in the hall that's working fine, but its too early to tell as its less than 3 years old.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Out of 2 Panasonic 1.5 AC's bought last year one is having problems from almost Day1. The indoor was replaced from 1 month of purchase date and last summer went peacefully. Got Ext warranty for 3 yrs seeing all this harakiri on a new AC. This summer there is this annoying noise that is not letting us sleep. Complained to Panasonic India and after few tweets they changed the indoor units outer casing as it had a deformation. Now the noise is even more and it starts only 3 - 4 hrs after AC is switched on. Panasonic are just sitting on my complaint as they can't hear the noise when they come for repair. Am tired of complaining again & again.

Any suggestions on what my next course of action should be?

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Anyone has experience with Onsitego extended warranty plans for Air Conditioners? They are quoting around 6K for 4years comprehensive AMC for a 1.5T AC for 4 year. Are they good? Any first hand experience with claim?

No idea.

Check whether they cover the following (for reference LG has all of these free within extended AMC)
. Unlimited calls for service
. Annual Service (LG has two)
. Gas filling
. Condenser change if damaged/choked
. Motor replacement

LG Charges around 9.5K.

Panasonic quotes around 12K.
Onsitego is promising a lot. They are even promising the replacement of the appliance in case any spare is not available. But my my doubt is about honoring the promise within right time.

I have been using Onsitego for the last 4 years or so. I have mixed experience with them.

I have 2 ACs under their comprehensive Plan. One Voltas 1.5 T unit kept giving problems within one year. They kept charging the gas every 6 months. But I could see that the ODU has the issue where it kept leaking gas. Instead of replacing the Coil, they kept repairing the unit for 2 years. Finally I threw out the AC and bought a new one.

They charge lower than Panasonic for extended warranties. And the quality of service varies from time to time. Only thing is you can escalate the issue and eventually it works.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Hi everyone, I hope you guys are doing well.

I want to buy a new AC for my parents.

Room size - 150 Sq ft
usage - 4 hours daily.
Budget - 40k.
Features - No need of any gimmick features like Alexa, Google assistant, Wi-Fi... etc.

Initially zeroed on Daikin but, after reading all the reviews and opinions from October 2023 on this thread dropped it out.

My thoughts and observations based on this thread.

1. Looks like many people had bought Panasonic and LG ACs recently.
I had one question for those who bought LG and Panasonic a couple of years back
Q. Is it true that companies like LG, Panasonic, Samsung fails to maintain the same cooling performance after 3 years of usage? Also, do they fail miserably when temperature raises to 45-46 degrees C in summers?

2.What's your opinion about Voltas? I haven't seen any suggestions to go for Voltas AC. 1 out of 2 ACs in my Brother-in-law village is Voltas. He also bought two 1.5ton 3-star inverter Acs in 2021 and he keeps insisting me to purchase the same.

So, if first question is just a myth, which brand should I consider between those two? or should I go with Voltas.

Note: My hometown is very rural area and the nearby town is 70kms away. The power quality is absurd, the voltage ranges from 250 volts to ceiling fans stops rotating. So, The company should have good service backup if any problem arises.

Hi. Is the sound you are hearing like a wind gusting/whooshing sound ?

If so then it's due to dust accumulation on the blades of the blower fan leading it to be unbalanced.

I have been facing similar issues on my current and previous ACs and the only solution is to clean the fan. No idea why these two AC fan blades are so "sticky" or attracting so much dust.

Like you, this sound only starts after a few hours when the room is totally cooled to the set temp and the AC (both are inverters) goes into its low power temp maintenance state. Once it starts it continues throughout the night no matter what settings you change.

Nope it's more of a bearing rubbing against plastic sound & it's been solved by replacing the blower fan bush which was faulty. Following my post on X someone from their higher up reached out & we worked out this solution.

This maybe a different approach. Walk around your home town and look for the AC Brand most installed in the area. One can only assume that works well and there is a good service network.

Voltage fluctuations are not great for any electronic device. These modern units are less tolerant. Is best you walk into an AC Dealer shop and ask them what to do to protect the unit from burnout. No matter how much warranty you have, the goal is to reduce downtime. That can be achieved only with a brand that is common in your area. The Installers will know what works well and they are also familiar when it comes to addressing issues, if any.

Your Brother in law is right about Inverter units. They draw less power and offer consistent cooling so why not. If Voltas is working well for him, I'd stick to that.

For this kind of usage, a simple non inverter type AC is better. More robust. I just purchased a General 1.5 ton non inverter AC for 39k. Trust me, the difference in quality between General and the rest is like night and day. There is no comparison, if you are looking to buy something fuss free for long term use.

Also, you need to invest in a higher step voltage stabiliser. Something that can pick up from as low as 90 or 110 volts. You’ll need a 7 step stabiliser.
