Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

How are Mitsubishi Electric ac's? They seem to have more presence than MHI in Kolkata. Need a reliable 1.5t AC for bedroom. We have 2 Carrier and a Daikin. Carrier has been fairly reliable while the daikin gave a lot of issues! (Water leakage, gas leakage) And how does ME fare against Hitachi/ Daikin?

We have a Daikin inverter model since 2014 and it's super silent

We have a 7 months old Bluestar 1.5 ton 5 star Inverter AC at home. We have a wierd problem with the Indoor unit. We seem to hear strange noise even when the AC is completely switched off. Similar noise occurs intermittently when the AC is running.

What could be the problem?

I was observing the noise couple of minutes back. It's something similar to plastic trying to expand.

Gas flow in pipes can be heard sometimes but not sure of this when the device is turned off for long.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

We have two Mitsubishi Electric. No complaints.

Daikin is a shadow of its former self. Have an old one (maybe 7 or 8 years) that I bought used a couple of years back. It is built like a tank. New ones on shops seen quite flimsy. Otherwise world have chosen Daikin, but went with the Mitsubishi

When you say the AC is completely switched off, do you mean right after it was in operation or even hours later? I have a Koryo inverter ac which behaves in the same manner. The plastic enclosure and coils crackle when the cooling starts and stops. This does not happen with my LG inverter or Samsung and Panasonic non inverter AC's. So I assume cheaper AC's like Koryo and Bluestar use lower quality materials. Many of these brands like Croma, Reconnect, Koryo, some Bluestar products, Lloyd, Mitsui, Electrolux, Sanyo etc all use the same rebadged generic Chinese products.

NB, it may be model dependent, but our Mitsubishis have environmental protection.

In fact, we paid for extra protective paint, and when they came to install, found that it was there fro the factory. A new thing to them for that model. This is a concern for those living with corrosive pollution.

Now then, 0.9T Hitachi unit which has not been serviced by ASPs for the last 6 years is running fine, and the ODU is silent.

Now then, what could be the problem with the LG unit, or is there is known problem? when new the LG ODU was pin drop silent.
It could be the exterior cooling fan bearings/motor. Due to lack of usage it could be rusted and that's what is producing the sound

Mitsubishi is the best there is. We are happy. It's premium pricing but also offers peace of mind. (My second choice would be LG. It just works, and service is good)

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I got my ACs installed last mont, in prep for the summer. While the new Mitsus have been working fine, have hit a snag with my only older VOLTAS 1.5. Post installation, I'd it serviced as well, something called a 'wet service' by Urbanclap, in which they clean the IDU with a water jet gun. They did a gas recharge too.

All was fine, when I tested it after service but because the weather here in Hyd wasn't warm enough, the AC wasnt used for about a month. Couple of days back, switched it on and it refused to cool! After few mins of running the IDU displayed 'EC' - looks like 'error code' of some kind but any thoughts what could be wrong!? ODU seems to be working fine.
Damn the corona, can't even call a mech.

Hello,

The issue is cracking noises are present even if the AC hasn't been used for couple of days. The noise is really disturbing and at the same time worrying. How can this occur when the unit is switched off?

Same noise occurs when the AC is being operated.
