Minus 14.7 psi is total vacuum!! How can you suggest minus 30?!
And moisture removal is a very important part of this exercise since an iced up expansion valve/orifice would render the AC completely ineffective!

My bad, this is why I failed to become an automobile engineer but an Orthodontist. It is 30 inches of mercury I suppose. The article in the link will clarify. I got confused because psi is written next to the reading in the instrument but Hg is also written in green. Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding moisture it is no doubt important but ingress of moisture is highly unlikely during the short period of about 15-30 seconds that we open the rubber grommets sealing the copper tubes. Vacuuming will remove any left over moisture. As stated by you moisture will kill the compressor but that happening is remote if we vacuum it properly

I am looking to buy an inverter ac for my second bedroom. It is about 180 sq ft, on the first floor & exposed to sunlight through two large windows on south and west side as well as through the roof.
We are currently using 13 year old Onida 1.5 ton, that cools very well, but i wake up having to get another bedsheet to cover since it gets too cold over the course of the night.

So I have been using another similar bedroom with a 2 ton inverter ac, where cooling is even all through the night.

So I am thinking of replacing old Onida with an inverter ac.

So kindly suggest a 1.5 ton basic inverter, with cu internals at a 40k budget in Chennai

@dvprasad; Inverter AC does not have an off-on mode so the temperature is maintained better.

Just an advice get a unit with the modern refrigerants : R410a or R32. The latter is essentially the same as the former with far less fire suppressants.

My 2 cents,
1.) Slope of outlet pipe from internal unit to outside should be maintained. Else this water will pour inside the room. This has happened with my new AC install, even though it was the 4th split in my house.
2.) Try to avoid having the wire go from inside room plug/stabilizer up to indoor unit. You can take it outside to outdoor unit and then bring it back to IDU from outside the room/house. Gives it a cleaner feel.

There are other tips on gas evacuation, pipe insulation, distance of IDU from ceiling (for ease of maintenance) and direct throw on body etc which you can discuss with the installer or read up more on this thread.

Might be a bit late if the AC has already been installed, but, my 2 cents
- Think where you want the AC to be mounted, the place you choose makes a lot of difference in overall performance of your AC
- Slope of the outlet pipe that has been suggested already
- Be very clear where the drain from the AC will run off outside the house, if this is badly designed, will give you lots of headaches later.

This typically happens in areas where humidity levels are higher. Ideally, once a week you should run the AC for 5 minutes in the Blower only mode at full blast to ensure that any accumulated moisture is dried off.
