Mitsubishi is a good company and has an overall good reputation. My local Kanpur dealer has just picked him up, he is the biggest in Kanpur and insists on Sales & service, so spares etc. must also be Ok.

Why is it that 'water cooled packaged units' comparitively inexpensive compared to air cooled ones of same tonnage.

Since I have no shortage of water on premises and space aplenty on ceiling to fit the outdoor unit. Does it make sense ??

5.5 Tons cost 14,775. Am I dreaming.

I do remember the sales person telling me that 'Service and Spares' is much better in Mitsubishi when compared to Daikin. Anyway, all these things, we will know for sure, only when we experience it personally.

I was in the same boat a fortnight ago looking for a 1 Ton 5 star split AC but persuaded to go in for an inverter AC. After doing a lot of research we shortlisted Trane 1 ton inverter and Bluestar 1 ton inverter. Final hit: Trane (IN2) TSI12DS . After running around in circles, I managed to place the order last Thursday (07 Apr 16) and the dealer informed me yesterday that my machine has been billed by Ingersoll Rand and received in Bangalore. Likely to be delivered and installed today/tomorrow.

Trane has 1.5 Ton Inverter also. TSI18TS. You may have a look at it here http://www.indiatrane.com/productlist.aspx?c=1 You may register and ask for a call back for more details http://www.indiatrane.com/sale.aspx . The website also has an open chat window and you may chat.

Yes; they are not as efficient as some of the Japanese units and off late , they are sourcing their indoor units from some OEM in China. This has not posed a problem except that for similar money, you may get a better quality air conditioner.

I speak from experience as I have 3 Blue Star air conditioners which are between 7 - 10 years old. The 1.5ton window unit, which is the oldest, was made at the Blue Star plant in India and even today, cools better and faster than the newer split units. Off course, being an older generation unit, power consumption is high. Not a single fault with any of the units to date. I would not bet on the 24 hour turnaround for spares, as the guy at the store told you. I'd say, give it a couple of days if anything does fail. Country wide service network is good too.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I just ordered and installed a Voltas 1.2T 155CY split AC for my bedroom. It cost me 26k excluding fitting charges, from Snapdeal. I had also ordered a V-Guard stabilizer but that thing never reached on time. Presently, my AC is running directly. Now, is V-Guard the best option among the stabilizers? I have never faced voltage fluctuations in my apartment.

V Guard is a popular and respected name in stabilizers. The question is, do they really protect. There is no clarity on how fast does the cut off respond when you have fluctuations. Like you, I've never had voltage fluctuations in my locality so don't use a stabilizer for any of the air conditioners.

There is some thing wrong with the price. A 5 TR package unit with a cooling tower will be in the range to 150K and not 14K, add cost of the controller and water delivery system and you are now in the 250K realm. This is only the chiller, you need add on components for further distribution of the cold air
. Ducting for both delivery and return path
. Front end grills
. Temperature Controllers for individual location

In short your best bet is to contact the company and get an ide of the system price.

So please check this and ensure you get a copper condenser before buying the AC.
Here in Noida, all dealers are saying ACs are 3-5 year products. From the worst brands to the best. So it makes sense to spend as little as possible in the beginning and get warranty coverage. Copper tubes are easily repairable but corrode easily as well (compared to aluminum/alloy). If you are living in areas prone to a rapid rate of corrosion (coast, drains (which is most areas of cities), buying ACs with copper tubes may not be a the wisest decision.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I'm tempted to choose Hitatchi 5400i as it has got many features.

Since I am a first time buyer with nil maintenance experience. I just want to ask long time users a few points:
1. how difficult is the cleaning problem of the ac's to maintain efficiency. 2 model 5400i and 5300i sport this autoclean feature.
2. auto people sensing feature and auto off in no one is present in the 5400i model
3. auto sleep modes like not pressing a sleep mode button
and the list goes on.

Are these conveniences that are really necessary apart from the cooling. Sometimes I feel I am falling into a feature marketing trap

But the EER of this series models are something not to be overlooked. They are very efficient. They are ranked 1 here at this link.
https://www.bijlibachao.com/top-ten-...-in-india.html

Do these so called features really matter so much to justify the 59k + 1500 for installation + 5KVA stabilizer price tag?

Thanks to all of you

Edit:
In the spell of last November rain till about January, we had too much cold feelings and blankets were not enough. In this case are heat/cool ac's useful? My father needs to use heater to avoid health problems. The home does not receive sunlight past 2:30 PM due to a big tree in front overshadowing ~30% of my house. We used to be very happy thinking ac's not needed but this summer our thoughts have been put in the shredder.

1. Autoclean. This works, but I doubt it will be useful in a dusty environment.
2. Auto people sensing. Works quite well in my Daikin. A useful feature if you want the AC on for a long duration, but are away from the room a lot. Of little use in a bedroom if you are not out of it much.
3. Auto sleep mode. Even our Window unit has it, but I prefer to set the temperature manually.

This is not a heat pump unit, so it is cooling only. If you want heating in winter then a Heat Pump unit is a better buy, as the heating is at a much lower cost compared to a room heater.

I've recently purchased Hitachi 1.5 Ton 5 Star Taushi - RAU518KWD unit for 41K from the dealer. We've very good service backup in our area from past 15 years and got it installed immediately within couple of hrs. Installation is free. We already have two Logicool 1.5ton 3 star doing duties from past 6y without any hitch.
Thought of buying 1.5 inverter model (52k) but stood away, since there are complaints about the same. I wanted to play safe and hence got a 5 star.I somehow don't trust the "Auto clean" feature, specially for our conditions.Though the inverter technology is old in other countries, but new to india. I would say it is in honeymoon period. Lets give some more time to mature

Cleaning the filters on an AC unit is so trivially easy that the hardest part of the job is getting around to it!

In a dusty environment, the indoor unit fan also gets covered in a layer of dust, and this actually has a major effect on its aerodynamic efficiency, considerably reducing airflow. Depending on the design, this can also be easy, or it can be a wrist-straining exercise best left to an engineer. It is also a little mucky. The filters, we take outside, or at least to the bathroom; the fan has to be cleaned in place.

In a 2014 Comparative Testing of split air conditioners (non-inverter), Consumer Voice reports:

"Only four out of 9 brands – Daikin (3.51), LG (3.4), Blue Star (3.38) and Voltas (3.32) – clearly meet their claim of energy efficiency ratio, which means they are more efficient in terms of high cooling capacity and are low on power consumption. Two brands – Panasonic and Godrej – meet the 5 stars requirement (3.30–3.49) but are slightly lower than their declared EER.
•Samsung (3.08), Hitachi (3.11) and O General (3.01) do not meet the energy efficiency rating of 5 stars as claimed"

Daikin Invertor Heat/Cool AC showing Green Flashing Led.

Hi friends

I have two 1.5 ton Daikin heat/cool invertor acs. Both worked fine for 3 yrs.

Then last year in 2015 May I moved into a new place and had to refill the gas during the relocation installation.

The ac worked fine during summers and also during winters.

Today I cleaned the filters and started them up after about 4 months. However both of them are showing Green Led Flashing with louvers not opening and staying in same condition for more than 2 hrs.

Any idea what is going on with it? Is it gas leakage or low gas problem?

Regards,

Rana.
