My experience with Daikin service is not good. I had bought an AC last May and to avoid any warranty issues, had asked their Authorised Service guys to install it. The installation done was quite poor and the piping developed a leak in few months. Last month when I logged a complaint, the service guy simply refused service citing lack of space where ODU is installed. Even after so many follow ups with Daikin, the outcome was zero. I even requested Daikin to transfer the request to another service center but Daikin was not simply willing to help. All this when the unit was within warranty.

Finally, I called another guy who had no issues with the space or area where ODU was installed and got it repaired with charges paid from own pocket.

Daikin was simply pathetic!! Must avoid. Go for the one which has better service in your area irrespective of brand.

I personally would not buy this online but from a physical store that offers one stop solution right upto commissioning and after sales service thereafter. May take longer but at the end of the day there is no passing the buck when need arises.
My experience online might be helpful
On my marriage in 2006, I bought 2 ACs from shopping.indiatimes.com where they were offering a cool 15% off & a cash back on SBI cards for 5%.
Online shopping was still a novelty back then & I had purchased no major online items till then. Just went ahead without contemplating too much.

1. LG Window 1.5T with remote
2. Onida split 1.5T

The items were shipped from the regional office, with the original company invoice & warranty stamped. A week later received a call from both the manufacturers sales office about how the ACs are functioning.
Till date i.e. nearly 6 years both are running strong.
Thus it really does not matter whether you buy online or offline as long as it is being fulfilled by the original manufacturer or the dealer.
Online gives you a price advantage & the feeling that you have not been cheated on the price and physical store gives you the ability to get back to the person who sold it to you - who at best redirects you to the local service franchisee.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Finally it was my turn to get ripped off by my Samsung 1.5 T Virus Doctor split AC that i'd bought in May, 2011. It worked like a charm for 3 years, but needed a gas refill in the summer of 2014. Cost us nearly 2000 rupees. The technician looked for leaks in both the external and internal unit, but found none. As we mostly use it for 3 months every year, he suggested that we use it at least once every fortnight for a few minutes to prevent gas leakage. Not sure if he was fooling us, but we tried our best to follow it.
Last summer it again was found to be deficient in gas. We argued with the technician and he agreed to fill it up as a goodwill gesture. But he changed the copper wires that lead to the outdoor unit and we had to pay for that.

But the problem resurfaced this year. We called the regular Samsung call center and had to wait for a week for their visit. The technician inspected the unit and pointed to a suspected leakage in the aluminium coil on the exterior unit. The bottom part had brownish colour and was due to leakage, per him. The only option was to change the entire condenser coil. And the charge was Rs 7200 for that, plus 2650 for gas refill, including transporting the unit to their workshop.

Having no other choice, we had to shell out that money, and now the unit is back and working fine. But the new coil carries a warranty only for 3 months! Sad to know how Samsung is milking its customers. If the coil packs up again, I'll try to see if the entire outdoor unit can be changed to one having copper coils, so that I don't get milked repeatedly. And I live in Hyderabad, which is far from the coast. As per the Samsung technician, several ACs in the city have the same issue. Only the ones sold prior to 2010 had copper coils and were problem free.

I have to say though that they were very cooperative the first time around. This time, 2nd big failure and with the parts shortage I am not expecting a very good outcome. Technician is coming tomorrow so lets see. Will update.

Again, our experiences are similar. Last year, under warranty, it took some time to get the IDU fan motor replaced, but it was supplied and fitted. This year, under AMC... week after week after week... zilch.

Apart from the lack of spares, it makes a joke of paying for AMC!

My personal experience of the installation and service guys, a local company, is good. I don't think any of this is their fault.

O'General - what is that? The band is General and what you are reading as O is the logo!

Look back in the thread and you will find the correction. I was also making the same mistake.

As for Hitachi their ASS is very bad in the split market.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

I intend to buy AC for my home, I live on the top floor on which one is my home theater room and the other is bed room. I was thinking of installing Multi-spit AC, so here is the story just for information:

Yesterday, I went to inquire about Bluestar Multi-Split AC for my home. As it uses a single big compressor, I thought the price would be less, but it costs the double of 3 similar sized (1.5+1.5+1.5T) AC. The model I inquired about has a single compressor of 4T capacity (Inverter model) and three indoor units are connected to it. (3 IDU, 1 ODU) The cost quoted to me was 1.7 Lakhs plus installation, the pipe cost quoted to me was 230/- running feet. Ridiculously expensive, they quoted some 32K for a single 1.5T unit even if I get 3 of them installed it would cost me 60% of what has been quoted for the Multi-Split model. Donot know why it was so expensive.

For some inexplicable reason multi-split ACs have always been on 'novelty' pricing in India, thereby defeating the very raison d'être.
Some non-technical marketing gent probably did the pricing without realizing that the sales of such ACs would be near zero!

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Can anyone suggest a AC who has good service in Bangalore .
Few days back I bought a Hitachi AC from Flipkart .Hitachi service is very very poor in Bangalore and if you see their facebook page looks like same at other places as well .
They took 7 days to get it installed -installation was so unprofessional that the AC shudders and judders so much that the buzz is audible in the room as well .Raised Ticket but nobody bothered to come and attend in 2 weeks time.
Raised a return request with Flipkart lets see whether they take return or not -or else I am going to chuck it out and buy another one .Hence the question .

Gentlemen, I have a question.

recently what is tempting me is this option of having 3 IDU (indoor unit) for 3 rooms with 1.5 tr each and just 1 ODU (outdoor unit) which can supply these 3 IDU's independently. This suits my requirements perfectly. I chanced upon a wonderful product from Blue Star on Snapdeal. http://www.snapdeal.com/product/blue...rter/413050185. Unfortunately sold out there, but it is a wonderful product at a wonderful price point. Blue Star's own site gives a inflated price of 1,72k http://www.bluestarindia.com/roomacs...R410A_DC_Multi
So now is this the cheapest multi-split's out there or are there more VFM models.

By nature, multi-splits or VRF (variable refrigerant flow-same concept higher tonnage) are inverter based, else they do not work well in theory. So that is not a concern since all multi-split or VRF are inverter based. But are there other options in the market.

General's site has VRF but little else information about it in terms of price etc. Toshiba has it too. Not interested in Daikin, Hitachi or Sharp since their service scares me. Am I missing anything ?

Tthat is not leakage, it is the condenser refrigerant drying out due to non-usage. It happens with every product that uses a refrigerant, if not used for more than a month at a stretch, there is risk of drying out.

Lol, saw this post just now.
Ttheir VRF is made in India now. Earlier it was imported. So that means their made in India prices are twice as expensive as the imported kit.
They are smoking something real strong, out there are Blue Star.

That is not correct. There is no such thing as refrigerant drying out! Any loss of refrigerant occurs through leakage only.

Do you have the prices of VRF when they were imported? AFAIK only compressor unit is imported rest all the components are sourced locally by Bluestar.

re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Finally after talking to the Trane Sales office here, I placed the order for Trane (IN2)TSI12DS 1 ton interactive air conditioner with their recommended dealer. Product: http://www.indiatrane.com/products.aspx?p=28

It seems to be a circle. When I contacted Trane Smartcare, I was given a phone number to contact and that he will arrange for the unit. That person in turn informed me that he will sound the Trane Sales and they will be speaking to me. Three days and no call. So I contacted that gentleman again today and he gave me the phone number of the Tranes office in Bangalore. When I rang up, the sales-in-charge told me that he was trying to contact me, but the call was going elsewhere. Obviously he had been given a wrong number as my mobile showed no missed calls. ( I usually return a missed call to find out who called.) He said they have two units and can deliver one to me @Rs.41500/-( MRP 42500) He asked me to contact the first gentleman and pay the cost. He will arrange delivery and installation. Installation charges to be paid. So the first gentleman to whom I was referred to by the Smartcare turned out to be a dealer. He informed me his dealership name, and Bank account details and I remitted the amount to his account with IMPS. So finally there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Till the Tranes Sale Office cleared my request, he never revealed that he is a dealer and he deals with almost all brands of air conditioners A to Z. From his dealership name, I found out all the details of the dealer. He seems to be a nice gentleman. He said that the company forbids him providing the power outlet and that I have to get it done by an electrician.

So hoping he will now deliver and install. The electrician has been playing hide and seek for the last one week. Finally he said he will come tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed for now.
