I think I posted my requirement incorrectly on the Home Appliances thread, didn't know this one existed.

I'm looking for a window AC (rented accommodation) for a 12' by 12' room. I rarely set the temperate at even 24 degrees and usually sleep with the temp set at 26-27 degrees or even higher. The AC would run daily for ~14-15 hours, all 7 days of the week.

Where is it that I should start looking? The least expensive the unit the better however if I'm going to save a lot on electricity bill (through economical mode settings) then I'd be more than glad to invest ~3-5k extra in getting a 3 or 5 star unit.

I have a Hitachi 5* window unit and it is working fine for the last two years.

Hi guys...need advice for a 1.5T 3 star split AC for my bedroom. The AC would be primarily used between Mar-Aug and would typically be running for the whole night (~10hrs). I am looking at basic models in Samsung, LG. But today, a snapdeal offer caught my eye. Its for a Voltas 183PX-R split AC with 3 star rating. Its being sold for 27k (installation and stabilizer extra). I have also seen a Samsung 1.5T split (Model No 18FC3UAEB) which is retailing at 30.5k incl of stabilizer and standard installation.

I already have a Voltas Vertis plus G purchased in 2010 for the master bedroom and this would be shifted to the child bedroom once the new one arrives. I have had no issues with the old one except for a gas leak due to faulty installation. Its also proved quite effective even in peak summers of Hyderabad. Voltas service too is quite prompt atleast here in Hyderabad.

Now here are my questions.
1) What among the two do you guys suggest. Any personal experiences among BHPians already using them?
2) Also can you guys suggest good split ACs at around 30k.
3) Is it advantageous to have same brand AC in the house for easier service?
4) I also would like to know how reliable is it to buy from Snapdeal. I have had good experience while purchased mobiles and other stuff from them before but am still skeptical if they would provide similar service for home appliances. Also could there be chances of defective pieces being sold at throwaway prices?

I've relocated. I'm getting both my daikin inverter acs reinstalled. I plan to get this done from the dealer that I bought from.

How much average cost should I be paying for removal+installation besides the cost of the copper pipes ?

I paid a private Ac mechanic 750 per Ac for removal and fitting. Didn't need copper. Three split and one window. This was last July.

Got a Daikin FT60MV16/R60MV16 1.8T 5 star non inverter split for 51k for an east facing 16x13x9 bedroom.

Was told inverter models don't do well in our area with constantly fluctuating voltages!

Hope it serves well. General was as always expensive. 2T non inverter quoted at 58k.

Searched the entire thread but could not find much being dsicussed on Trane AC's (residential).

I am contemplating buying a 1.5T Trane AC (TSR18DW3 - 3 Star rating) for my bedroom. My Interior Designer talked very highly of it.
Is this better than Daikin and how it the service support? Its roughly the same cost as similar spec'ed Daikin (around 2k more than Daikin)

Would be great if anyone using it can share his/her experience.

EDIT: It has a R22 Rotary Compressor. Is this a good thing as compared to Daikin ?

Trane are big name in industrial products, but never heard of Trane domestic AC. As such their service network for home appliances may not be any where comparable to established players.

The thing about a domestic AC is not how good it is, but how reliable is the machine and the service network. With Daikin you have a known player with wide service network and a healthy volume, with Trane that is not known.

In the current scenario, with electricity prices rising monotonically, I would suggest the most efficient unit available, which at present are the 5 star rated "Inverter" models. I installed a Daikin 1.5T Inverter model this season and it much superior to any other model available.

Noted: The only Issue being the budget. Cannot stretch beyond 36k for a 1.5 Ton and I dont see even 5 star models (without Inverter) within this range.

I previously had a 1.5 ton Onida window which served me very well for 9 long years without even needing a gas top-up. Just normal cleaning, but it has to go now for a much silent Split since I just re-did my entire house.

Suggest if you know of any in that budget and reliable (5 star without inverter is also fine)

As Aroy said you cannot go wrong with Daikin.

With your budget you should be able to get an inverter from Daikin with the R22 gas otherwise go for a non inverter machine.

Buy only from one of the dealers listed for your city in Daikin's web site.

I have two 1.5T Daikins at home in our bedrooms. For the spare bedroom, I just picked up a Samsung 1.5T 2 Star for ~28K fitted. We had a Hitachi 1.5T window and it just gave me too much grief. I had spent about 20K in repairs by the company direct and when it quit cooling for the third time in < 6 years, I gave up and decided to buy a split. Daikin 2* is about 32-33K installed and so decided to go with Samsung. Check Rathafanhouse.co.in for indicative pricing. That is where I have picked up my Daikins and Samsungs.

Should be a fixed amount set bu Daikin for both removal and re-installation. If I remember correctly, Samsung (via customer care) charged me 1.5k for both around 1 year back.

Depending on whether the units are under warranty or not, would strongly recommend calling Daikin customer care directly and checking with them.

Dealers are known to send along their local 'chhokra' masquerading as an authorized installer. The last thing you want is improper removal and installation plus warranty refusal for any damage caused!

Finally bought the Panasonic YC18PKY2 1.5 Ton 3 star. Got it for a much lower price of 28.5k. It is with R22 Gas. I am not sure how it will affect in the long run once R22 is off market from 2015. Hope it can be replaced with R401 gas. Not sure right now.

Did you mean R410a and not R22 which is obsolescent.

I meant the R22 only, keeping in mind the budget.
