Hi,

I'm still using Destinator V7.0.24.140.3 by SatNav, I recently got the OneIndia map version: India SatNav 2009.Q2 V.3006-07Sep09-OneInidaGeneric.

Are these the latest versions? with the 400+ cities? comparable with MMI maps?
If not, I would like to upgrade.
Has anyone found a way to plan routes before the journey using some PC software and then those routes can be imported to the device??

Don't think destinator has any route planning software that syncs to PND or Cell.

What do you use PND or Cell?

I use my HTC phone thats running SatNav.
I heard from SatNav that if I want that functionalities, I will have to buy the PC version of SatNav, I can create routes using the PC version and then transfer it to the mobile device. Is that going to be the (only) solution? Is POIEdit an option here?

NetFreakBombay is an expert on this .
Some time back he helped me to view Satguide bought maps on a PC.
Here is the summary: (@NFB please correct if something is wrong)

- No third party map vendor will give you a map and a software to browse.
- PC version of the map software cannot be used to transfer data to PND.
- PC Maps and PND Map products are separate as far as Satguide goes.
I am checking with MMI, but no answers yet.
- Garmin's free software called Mapsource needs to be used to view maps and plan routes, add waypoints etc.
- To view these maps, they need to be installed from the source, which can be an SD card if one has bought the map separately.
- This would be in form of an IMG file, which needs to split, and re-mapped to ensure that the Garmin s/w (Mapsource) can read it. Spliting can be done through GMAP tool, which then needs to be mapped through cGPSmapper like softwares.
* While re-mapping the cGPSmapper needs to process the routing information on the map, in order for you to plan routes in Mapsource.
* Free versions of routable cGPSmappers are not available. Hence the transalation you may get will be limited to view, searching and waypoint/POI additions only, but not route planning.

- Once done you can install this into Mapsource by use of a Mapsource tool kit.

I know its an elaborate procedure. I wonder why Garmin software cannot read the map stored in the GPS device. I understand that importing of maps from hardware can cause piracy issues, but at least Mapsource should be able to browse maps when the hardware is connected to the PC.

Hope this helps.

Since he is not using Garmin, this would not work for him.

He needs "Destinator for PC". Don't know if it supports transferring routes / POI to device. But it runs with the same maps as used on device.

Map Myindia VX-140

Hi Guys,

This is my first post since i joined Team-BHP. 30th October i brought my ANHC. Since i was always passionate about GPS, i brought MapMYIndia VX-140 and fitted in my ANHC. I am pretty happy with the feature such as blue-tooth, video player and maps. It cost me Rs 13150. Original cost is Rs 15,000, from ebay seller was selling it for 14,000 and i used 10% ebay voucher, so got another 1000 off.

This is not the first time i have used MapMYIndia maps. I was using it with my wife's HTC mobile. And it really came to use when i went for Goa. I started from Bangalore and gave the destination as Baga beach, Goa. Till Karwar i knew road well and map was pretty accurate apart from the by-pass in tumkur where it did not recalculate when i choose shortcut. And i was really surprised by map accuracy in Goa, i did not ask for road at single place in Goa and it took me in baga without any problem. That day i realized navigation has really arrived in India. Since i was using G-Space GPS receiver and my wife used to disconnect for phone calls and knowing my previous experience with MapMyIndia i choose VX-140. Hope i will have good time navigating with updated maps in this new system.

Regards
Sham

ah! I have a plan to go to Kumbakonam and visit 9graha. I got the coordinates from the web, but it looks like I wont be able to add them to my POIs on the HTC device running SatGuide. I'm not completely dependent on it - most probably going to get the guide for this but it would have been helped and quicker if I the clear route to these places are available and they are on my POI list.

You can add them but you will have to add them manually on the cell itself.

I'll see if Destinator stores thins on some CSV / GPX internally (Like Miero used by MMI). In that case you can edit that file on PC and transfer to cell.

EDIT : You can manually add POI via "My Locations" in Destinator. Data is stored in "destinator/userdata" folder. Try adding a couple and if it is stored as plain text, you can automate it easily.

Vx-140

Hi Nair,

I just checked the price in ebay, its still Rs 14000 + 150 shipping charges. Are you checking the same ?

eBay India: MAP my India Navigator Vx140, wrnty GPS Rs.1000/- off (item 270477233272 end time 28-Nov-2009 16:52:23 IST)

To be sure of warranty and all i had contacted MapMyIndia and asked them why you are charging 14,999 when someone is selling for 14,000 in ebay. They told me the person selling in ebay "autoworld08" is our channel Partners and you will get all the warranty and free map upgrade. So i went ahead and brought it in ebay since it was almost 2k savings for me.

Regards
Shamanth

Thanks for the inputs NFB,
I remember I used to/ rather tried adding POIs using POIEdit sometime back, it was about modifying the MyFavorites.dat file in the same location that you pointed out.

I should try that one more time and see if that works. FYI, the favorite file is .DAT and not sure what other utilities can help me edit / add POIs to that.
I will share my experience if I have some success.
