Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Guys, is there a way to rotate the home screen and apps in iPhone 6s in landscape mode.

The reason I ask is to use it in my impending purchase ford figo(which comes with Ford mydock).

Re: The iPhone Thread

In a similar fix and I wanted to buy the X but its uncertainty is making me shift towards 8+, if I end up buying. Had rumours of X discontinuation been not around, I would have got it.

Re: The iPhone Thread

My wife is purchasing the 8 Plus instead of the Ten. Her reasoning, the X looks like a Samsung.

People with HDFC cards ( and HDFC durables loan seekers), are getting cashbacks ( 12 for x and 10 for 8/8+) with a No Cost 6/9month EMI. I went to check the scheme yesterday at a Croma store and the cost for 8 + 256 is 86000 less 10000 Cashback on the card. I was calculating Croma's offer v/s Paytm ( 82000-6500) and then it struck me that Croma's offer is a no-brainer with a 9 months interest free staggered payment rather than a full payment on Paytm mall.
Offer available with istores, nyasa and the likes.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Colleague buys a iPhone X; sets it up and then... it refuses to unlock! Screen becomes completely unresponsive.

So much for Apple flagship product quality.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Anybody updated to iOS 11.2.5?

A wide range of issues have been reported so far for this release -

https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonk...lay-bluetooth/

Still waiting to see if all is fine before I update. iOS updates have become such a curse.

There was a time when I used to update with complete abandon. The releases used to be so smooth that there were hardly any issues.

So a product which sells by millions every month is suddenly poor quality because it refused to unlock after setting up? That is why Apple's award winning support is for. Take it to them and they will give him a brand new phone.

I am on iOS 11.2.5 and have been updating as you said "with complete abandon" and I have been doing that since iOS 5 (iPhone 4). I have not faced any issue. It seems more media generated to me than anything else.
Forbes has a weekly regular by Gordon Kelly called "Nasty surprises in iOS 11" which started late September last year. They make a living out of such articles. They highlight isolated issues and make it seem big. I would suggest update but use iTunes to do so to be absolutely certain of a good update.

I updated my 8 plus and wife's 6s yesterday. Haven't noticed any of the issues mentioned in the article. In fact, I felt the battery is holding up much longer.

Finally succumbed to buying the 8 Plus from the US of A. A Cousin is coming down in a few days,so bought it online on the Apple store with the 'pick up from the store' option.

For the 8 plus 256 GB, credit card has been charged for Rs 65701.67/- ( there will be conversion charges + GST in addition).
Here in shops, with the HDFC cashback of 10,000, it was still coming to 76000 ( 86-10).

Thanks for your comments! I have upgraded the version today evening. Will report back if there are any issues.

On a different note, my iTunes backups are failing all the time. The message given is iTunes faced an issue reading or writing from the iPhone. I am using a certified Anker cable so that could not be an issue. Any other pointers?

I found out the reason for the backup failures. I had less than 12GB free space on my drive, when trying to backup a 64GB iPhone.

I deleted the previous backups and it worked fine!

Re: The iPhone Thread

Story of my battery life

Yesterday, I left home at 9:00am after fully charging (100%) my iphone 8+ and had a super busy day with multiple calls, browsing apps, not much of whatsapp though (maybe peek in once in a couple of hours for 10-15 mins), texting etc

Please note, I keep the screen brightness to 40% and lower it even further at night. Otherwise, it gets super bright

Got home in the evening around 8:30pm and my evening calls started from 10:00pm and went on till midnight and then watched some videos before sleeping.

As I write this piece my battery life is 24%

That is just 76% battery usage in 26 hours

And, I am sure I can get by through the day if I dont use Whatsapp which according to me is the biggest battery killer

Yeah, I'm super happy because my last iphone (6+) during the last 6 odd months was making my life miserable as I was getting to be known as that person with a power-bank in his other hand (LOL!) as it would not even last me 7-8 hours on a full charge

iPhone 8+ really has a wonderful battery life !!!

P.S: I am curious to know if all other flagship brands (Pixel, OnePlus5T, S8+ etc) have similar battery life? Thoughts please?

Re: The iPhone Thread

With the current budget aiming at increasing customs duty, it looks like the iPhone will again take the hardest fall. Prices are set to increase.
So all Apple fans, hurry up and get your devices. 📱

Re: The iPhone Thread

My Wife got the 8 Plus 256 gb on 26th January with a Republic Day offer. I feel it was a good deal in exchange for her 6s Plus 64 gb.

8 Plus 256 gb price INR 83000
HDFC loan offer as we don't have a debit card. INR 7889 X 9 months = 71,001
Cash back of INR 10000 after 90 days
INR 21000 for her 6s Plus 64 gb out of which 12 thousand was taken as a down payment.
Karbonn Power bank 10000 MaH free.
INR 9000 in cash back from the dealer immediately, 21000 less 12000 down payment.

8 Plus 256 gb we will pay INR 52000 over the next 9 months.

Cheers
