Re: The iPhone Thread

Battery health hasn’t been discussed for sometime now . Let me pop it. Looks like I got a bad battery. My iPhone 15 is at 91% in 9 months of usage. Been using the apple 20w charger and cable. The phone is pretty good to use. Gets warm while charging and while using in light mode. Not sure what’s the cause for this quick deterioration.

People are disappointed with 12Mini's battery life but I still need to charge it once in 2 days- don't know how & why
It is still running iOS16.XX. I did upgrade to iOS 17 when it rolled out but battery life took a huge hit needing me to charge the phone every day. Also the contacts card was so ugly that I couldn't stand it. Thankfully Apple was still signing the last versions of iOS16 hence I rolled back to it.
I am still there and sitting on fence if I should upgrade to iOS18.

I've decided not to update unless my office apps stop working. Then will have no choice but to go ahead.

I wish Apple brings back the Mini series, or at least give the SE with a full-screen display.

The battery health of my iPhone 14 which is about 13 months old is at 90% ! Surprisingly my Wife's iPhone 14 Pro bought around the same time has 95% battery health, she's a much heavier user than me. We both use the 20W fast charger.

Re: The iPhone Thread

My 2-year-old 13 Pro Max is at 92% today. I usually charge overnight using a magsafe charging dock. Optimised battery charging has been on always.

Re: The iPhone Thread

I don’t know why you guys are obsessing about the battery and percentages. Just use your phone, charge it whenever you want, however you want. You will not extend battery life beyond 3 months. That is, with all the obsessing and calculating things your battery will at best last for 3 more months or so, nothing dramatic because it’s a depleting resource - why bother. Please take a moment and think about this.

My iPhone 11 will complete 5 years this November. Battery is at 72% and shows service since a very long time. I don’t care because it doesn’t affect my usage. I have to charge it in the evening and later plug it in before going to sleep. When it gets too irritating, meaning I have to charge it more often I will change the battery.

You will care only if you have experienced an emergency or in any situation where the phone battery charge is rapidly coming down, but you are not close to a charger. Examples:

- Medical emergency (you will be making/answering lots of calls)
- Your car breaks down on the highway (you will be making/answering lots of calls, can't use car charger)
- Your child is performing on stage & you want to take photos/video [especially if (s)he is participating in multiple shows]

and so on.

You are assuming that your phone charge will be at 100% when the above happens. But what if it is at 40%?

Yes, changing the battery is a far simpler solution. But we like to squeeze the last drop of juice out of a lemon, so we like to obsess over battery health and optimum charging techniques.

72% battery health means your screen time is down by > 50%. That is, if you were getting 6 hours on screentime when new, you are now probably getting just 2.5 to 3 hours. That's because smartphone (battery health degradation vs max screen time) graph is not linear. Roughly, 10% battery health reduction results in 20% loss in screen time.

Changing the battery at 80% to 85% offers the best bang for the buck.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Guys,
Is there a way to block the spam smses or directly move it to "junk section" on iMessage; especially from specific / repeating senders? For example - Tata Neu spams me with 5 - 10 messages everyday. Despite blocking it numerous times, iOS doesn't block or "junk" messages from that number. And the notification alerts

I have tried availing the "hide alert" and "block sender" option on that contact but there's no effect to it. Any suggestions are most welcome.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max is 10 months old and the battery health is showing as 99%.

Im a heavy user of the camera, scanner via notes and whatsapp and email mostly along with some browsing, kindle and some youtube. Am not a heavy user by way of talk-time.

Screen time on the phone, average is 4-5 hours a day.

Re: The iPhone Thread

So close to 10 months of light usage, may be about 125 charge cycles, the battery health has finally dropped from 100% - it's now 99%.

Quoting both of you to ask about this comment I came across:
The photo organizer is said to have changed in iOS 18. So instead of the folders/favorites etc, photos are apparently in one single page.

Is this correct ?

SmartCat, please read my post again, I feel what I am trying to say has been lost in translation.

I shall reiterate for clarity;
By obsessing about battery percentage or life and charging to 85% or whatever suits an individual may prolong your battery life by maybe 3 months or thereabouts. So why stress and bother so much about it.

If anyone is so concerned about it then change the battery every year. If an individual can buy a phone for ~1 lac or thereabouts then spending 6-7 thousand on a battery shouldn’t deter such an individual instead of overthinking about dire situations.

At the end of the day - each to his own! Anyone on his/her phone wants to keep obsessing about battery percentages instead of just enjoying the phone and life is welcome to do so, it’s a free world. Just putting forth an alternate thought process which may help make someone’s life simpler if they haven’t thought about this angle.

Hope I have made myself clear as there is really nothing else to say.

Cheers

Yes the photos appear in single page with options to choose Years, Months, All and if you close that/Scroll up you will come across Recent Days, People,Pinned collections (Favorites) Memories, Trips, Recent Photos and then Media types which allows you to choose from Videos, Selfies, Live Photos, Portraits.

Further down you have Utilities section where you can access hidden photos, Recently deleted, Receipts and handwriting.

After that you have Albums section and finally Wallpaper suggestions.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Hi, my daughter iPhone 13 (March 2022 purchase) was at 78% battery health when we sold it on 20th September 2024 to buy iPhone 16 Pro. She had very heavy usage. Now we bought iPad for watching movies, shows etc. so that iPhone 16 Pro will have better battery health in long run.

My wife's iPhone 13 (October 2022 purchase) is at 100% battery health.

I use Samsung Galaxy S23 in which I have no idea what is the current battery health.

Sir, please think for a moment. What is your final goal when buying a phone costing over a lakh? Enjoy it to the full or preserve the battery life. Your daughter make full use of the phone she purchased and sold it. If your wife's phone has 100% battery life; how is it helping?

This battery health percentage is a big scam pulled by Apple to make the customers insecure about the battery life and go for battery replacement even if it is not warranted.
Battery replacement with 80% health? What is the meaning of this? You can only use battery for 20% of its health and then replace it? This is exactly what apple want.
I have 4 iPhones at my home. Never even bothered to look at the battery health. One 8 year old iphone 7 with original battery is 72% and still doing ok.

As someone pointed already, buy the phone to enjoy it. Not worry about something which is bound to deteriorate. You are not going to get a trophy for maintaining 100% battery health when you sell or replace the phone ultimately.

This is the same mentality as some people refuse to take the plastic cover off their seats thinking sitting on it will spoil it.
