Re: The iPhone Thread

I put the transparent Spigen case and it is really good quality (but it's from the US, so not sure if they maintain same in Asia)

Thanks, but i always assumed that all transparent cases end up turning “yellow” after a certain period, even otterbox had this issue. Not sure if Spigen is an exception.

This is true, I picked up spine transparent case and it has gone yellow within six months!

I am not bothered much as my iPhone 14 is yellow too and it goes well with the phone.

I also have RingKe, Totem branded cases which I swap when I get bored of the transparent ones.

There are 2 types of transparent materials (any make) which is being used in the phone cases;

1) Thermoplastic Polyurethane TPU (Soft cases, can bend and turn)
2) Polycarbonate PC (Hard case, is brittle, can't bend)

Although both have the tendency to turn yellow due to the oxidation in presence of UV rays, which is time/exposure dependent. PC is somewhat more resistant to UV yellowing as compared to TPU. That's why you will see TPU covers turning yellow quickly as compared to PC covers, its termed as photo oxidation or photo degradation. That's their inherent property.

If you want to slow down the process of UV yellowing, choose a cover with anti-oxidant coating, will definitely cost a bit higher and will be transparent till coating protects it.

Read the back of the box before you buy, all reputed ones will mention the details. This is what apple says.

Quote:
Crafted with a blend of optically clear polycarbonate and flexible materials, the case fits right over the buttons for easy use. On the surface, a scratch-resistant coating has been applied to both the interior and exterior. And all materials and coatings are optimized to prevent yellowing over time.

Does Spigen explicitly mention that? Because AFAIK all transparent cases do eventually turn yellow.

Here’s one from the iPhone 14 Pro. Spigen:

Please do check Amazon India for reviews. Plenty of instances wherein buyers have complained of yellowing.

Yes now they mention explicitly. Not just Spigen, others too. And in US they might get sued if it does yellow, you never know

Same, even my Spigen Transparent Case has turned yellow for the Iphone 15 Pro Max. It's inevitable with the heat from the Phone.

Multiple reviews on Amazon US say this :

The iPhone Thread-spigen_anti_yellow.png

Probably this would be like "Yellow Resistant" in fine print.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Faced a strange issue on Sunday night with 15 pro max. The display won’t turn-off until I press the lock button. I have kept my auto-lock at 30 seconds. So, after 30 seconds the phone would lock but the display stays on. Tried changing few things in the display settings, but nothing worked.

Finally, restarted the iPhone and things went back to normal.

P.S.: I have started using iPhone since March. Initially, I had set the charging optimisation at 80% limit. But within a month, the battery health dropped to 99% (with ~20 cycles). So, I changed my charging habit: chose the optimised battery charging, and now I leave the phone overnight connected to the charger. Battery health is still maintaining 99% after 3 months since 1% drop (~80 cycles).

Re: The iPhone Thread

Had bought a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Matte Black case for my 13 Pro Max in April 2022, and it’s still going strong without any yellowing issues.

Spigen, even when bought from the US, is NOT an exception. My case started turning yellow within a year.

Re: The iPhone Thread

I just bought the JioTag.

Any one tried that with the iPhone.

Either it syncs with find my or with the jio think app.

Doesn't sync with both apps.

Any suggestions? I'll update after trying it out for a few days.

I have three AirTags and I'm very happy with it. A half price option from Jio enticed me to try out as well.

What is your use case? The transparent cases mostly turn yellow due to oils from your hand and UV exposure. If you are careful in these aspects, you can prolong yellowing. Also matte finish cases are better placed to hide this issue.
