I said order it online. Not have it delivered to my backside while its sitting in bangalore.

399 USD + taxes and unlocking and hacking is a piece of cake all you need is reading ability and a wifi network.

Unlocked ones are available in delhi for 23-26k depending where you buy from. make sure the unlocked ones show 8 GM and not 300 MB, if the last 2 steps are missed it will show only 300 MB and several unlockers are doing that ...

i unlocked 2 over the weekend for the first time and wow it was easy ...

MUST GET IPHONE ....

as for getting locked with the firmware upgrade you can

a unlock it again
b, when connecting to your PC ensure that you are either not connected to the net or itunes is blocked in your firewall and you wont get any updates

All that is fine but from what I have heard, you cannot purchase one from the Apple site with an Indian credit card. So we're stuck?

Yes. 25k is the price of the unlocked ones. Some IT engg are busy at. If they had to travel to US, then grab 3,4 iPhones from there. Bring home and hack it and sell for 25k. Cool 10k per phone.

Also, i guess the novelty factor on this phone is eroding fast. Already there are just too many sighting of iphone in my company and my friends company. But got to say, its one cool device. The interface just rocks.

Yes I know that. But there's a compromise as always in our life. May be they'll will sort these out in future.

Not entirely true! I bought mine with greenbacks because I didn't have a credit card at the time.

Just got my iPhone ... Its locked from the states itself so i need to figure out the unlock... looked at some methods online seem pretty complicated... can someone let me know an easier way to unlock the 1.1.1v software.
Also are there any reliable chaps in bombay who will unlock on the spot for me.
