Recently assembled a PC for home use, hardly had about an hour to choose the config so did not get much time to research on the motherboard and the processor ( Had gone to the shop to buy some parts for my old pc and decided there to buy a new PC instead ) The experts can comment on how good the config is.

Core2duo 2.2ghz 2mb level 2 cache. 4600rs
Intel Motherboard INTEL D945GCNL with pci express slot : 2700rs
1Gb trancend DDR2 667mhz : 800rs
Samsung DVD writer 20x : 1200rs
Wester Digital 160GB sata : 2050rs
Circle Cabinet (trust me guys it looks awesome.so far the best finish i have seen) 1500rs
LG 19 inch LCD wide : 8500rs

total cost around 22500 with vat.
Already had a keyboard, mouse and speakers from the old computer.
Bought all this from a shop in the Vashi Plaza building.

Thanks a lot for all your advice guys , sorry couldnt reply earlier as i have some relatives over so just couldnt get time ...

Just a question, should I prefer the AMD over the intel core 2 or vice versa. I do have the core 2 duo (T 7200 ,2 Ghz 4MB l2) on my IBM and am pretty satisfied with it but would love to try the AMD too once....a lil confused.

An AMD is recommended for VFM builds as they tend to have motherboards with good features ( like RAID, good onboard video- for both gaming and home theatre duty ) at very low prices.

Intel might be a better option if you plan on overclocking. If you're going to run them at stock speeds , the AMD's offer better value

AMD or Intel brand does not matter since most of the time you will not be using CPU to its maximum ratings. So pick the best CPU + MOBO combination that you can get in your budget.

This is the config I built last week:
