I've been using S23+ for the last 6 months. Was on OnePlus devices for 7 years. OnePlus prior to Oppo merger was pretty good, but its all-downhill post that. That was the main reason i switched to Samsung after mocking them for decades. For me it's night and day difference between the two. Samsung is way ahead in OS customization, support and almost in all the aspects. Trick with Samsung is not to get any of their Exynos phones or to be precise any processor made at the Samsung foundry (notably Snapdragon 888, 8 Gen 1 equipped phones). Its complete garbage. I bought my S23+ over the S24+ mainly due to that (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 vs Exynos 2400). OneUI 6.1 is a pretty heavy skin with numerous additions (mainly the AI things) which require a powerful and efficient processor, Exynos is sadly not any of that. Whereas my 8 Gen 2 just rockets off at any task without heat or stutters or battery drain.

I'm on the 1 May 2024 update, One UI 6.1 Android 14, on S23 Ultra. No issues, running as it should.

Mean, after you buy a phone, you never update it? Wow, that's a new one. After a while, wouldn't some apps start demanding that the software be updated?

The phone came back 10 days later and they had just performed a factory reset on it. The moment I started restoring my data, the same bootloop started.

It was clear they hadn't changed anything at all.

I wrote them several emails explaining the situation. They asked me to send it back again.

Round 2:

Sent it back to the same centre again with a note sellotaped to my phone saying nothing changed after the last repair.

I also selected 'Bluetooth/Wifi' as the fault this time. Got it back after 7 days again.

It is back to OneUI 6.0 now and is working perfectly. However, they do not declare if they opened and replaced the motherboard or Network module.


I was lucky that my phone was still in warranty. Because for those who have out of warranty devices, the amounts ranged from 300 to 400 euros.

My mother also uses the same phone and upgraded to One UI6.1 without any problems. So it is really disheartening.

There are several threads also on the European Samsung forums about this. Will be happy to share the link with you if you need it. But sadly there is no solution.

Needless to say, I am not upgrading to the new software now. Thankfully I had a backup phone with me, but for those who don't, it is such an unacceptable situation.

My phone A52 is on One UI 6.1 / Android 14 / 1-May-2024 Update.
Also, my wife's S21 FE and S23 FE both are updated.
No new issues on any of these devices due to the update.
S21 FE eats up battery as fast as it used to when it was new.

I use an S23 and my wife uses an S23 FE. I don't remember what updates I installed, but I just remember that I installed every update that the system showed (security/OS update) on both phones.

No issues so far on either phone, but I'm touching wood as I type this.

I have an S23. Parents and siblings with S23+, 3 ultras (S22, S23 and S24). All of them on the latest FW and security patch. We haven't faced any major bugs that annoyed us.

I updated to Android 14 - one UI 6.1 in my Samsung M53 and now I can use the phone to iron small pieces of cloth!

I can't say I won't use Android anymore, because I have faced this issue before with Apple and my wife has had this issue with apple since a decade.

Guess we just have to suck it up and live with it.

I have a S22 ultra as well 512GB version. For some reason I have still OneUI 6. Now I have disabled automatic download and install option. Thanks for the heads-up. Usually I never had any hiccups with Samsung's firmware updates. That's why I kept it enabled for auto updates. One issue I have with my phone is that it gets hot especially with 5G it's like a hand warmer. I have a rugged armour case UB Pro. Still I feel the heat. I'll skip this update then.

This is a typical Samsung OLED issue affecting non Samsung phones using the Samsung panel as well like OnePlus. I got it on my S20+ and it was replaced free of cost along with battery after 1.5yrs when phone was out of warranty and its is now working perfectly fine after 2years touchwood.

Aren't such cases expected to hinder heat dissipation (and thus exacerbate the problem, and thereby harm the electronics inside even more)?!

-- Or is it deemed good enough if they also insulate sufficiently, so the heat trapped is not palpable (akin to sweeping the dirt under the carpet)?

The armour meant to protect from dings/falls. Nothing much to do with the heat management as it's of hard pvc/plastic. Could be true that it's not dissipating the heat efficiently but those instances of heavy usage is less frequent for me. I stopped gaming long back and the heat instances probably under the limit of threshold. I meant it's ok to dissipate heat and cpu is designed to take the heat from the design unless otherwise it's run extreme hot for hours or days continuously.

Update to this ordeal. I threatened action everywhere if something was not done. Someone from the CEO's office called and asked me to deposit the phone for checking. Doing it tomorrow, lets see what unfolds. Tried incrementally adding stuff, the phone has become like a turtle. Things take seconds to open, sometimes it hangs and restarts itself.

Never thought such a phone with such huge processing power and ram will turn itself into a slow-mo character.

The phone is at the service station since a week. The higher management and the service station guys are both playing bat and ball with each other with no resolution.

Does anyone have any contacts in Samsung they can help me with? This is too expensive a purchase to just let it go to the bin because Samsung released a pathetic update.

Please help!

The takeaway from these issues is that Samsung is just taking its customers for a ride. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware. It's their software which is badly designed, poorly engineered and full of bugs.

Phones are not cars with complex mechanical parts to break down frequently and be taken to a "service center" for repairs due to problems caused by software. Most software issues can be remotely diagnosed and fixed.

A factory reset or even OS downgrade can be done at home but they will simply not allow it. All this seems to be a part of Samsung's planned obsolescence strategy or their software engineering team sucks big time!
