Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?

Need to pick up a mobile for myself by first week of May. Very much confused with S23 & S23FE. Requirements are a good camera phone for a moderate user that can last for min of 3-4 yrs as the current S9+ am using is 4.5 yrs old. Changing it as the camera quality & battery backup has completely deteriorated in the last 1 yr or so.

S23 retails at about 55k and S23FE at 42k for the 8gb 256gb variant after discounts.

Need inputs from BHPians to select the best

Get the S23 and avoid the Exynos processor in the S23FE.

Get the S23. In fact I would recommend the S23 over the S24 too due to the Exynos processor in the S24. Samsung somehow feels the Asian markets don't deserve Qualcomm processors even for their flagship devices.

The regular S23 please. The tablet grade bezels and the thick chin on the S23FE make it an eyesore.

Gents, is something wrong with Exynos processor? Even in previous posts by other members, I've noticed folks avoid a particular Samsung phone if it has Exynos.

Yup! The Exynos processor is inferior compared to the Snapdragon. This inferiority is seen in 3 particulars namely-

1. Performance of the phone
2. Image quality
3. Battery life

Since the middle part of the last decade, Exynos has been consistently trailing the Snapdragon in the above parameters. The only thing that varies is the extent by which it trails the Snapdragon. My Note 10+ has the Exynos 9825 and my mother's S10 Lite has the Snapdragon 855 (the Note 10+ had the 855 for the US and Chinese markets), and the Snapdragon feels much more snappy. You may wanna watch this one-

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Took a leap of faith and replaced my S20 with a sapphire blue S24. Got the phone for around 45K from Samsung.com. Was shocked to get an exchange value of around 27K for my 3.5 year old S20. This is unheard of for Samsung phones considering, I got it for around 42K. So decided to better extract the residual value before it goes dead.

Like others I was confused between Snapdragon S23 and Exynos S24. But finally went with the S24. There can be some reduction in battery life and performance impact. But I am not a heavy user and should be OK with Exynos. It did not give any problems in my S20. So decide to go with the latest rather than a 1 year old phone.

Somehow I am not able to look beyond Samsung after 10 years of using only Samsung flagships. Really loved the sapphire blue color in S24.

Unless you are a gamer or a phone reviewer comparing/benchmarking phones with snapdragon and exynos side by side, you will not find anything wrong.
On day to day usage there is no noticeable difference. There will be a slightly higher battery consumption on exynos- say around 5% (non-gaming) usage- compared to snapdragon.

Also Snapdragon brand image is very strong. So, people by default say get snapdragon. Eg: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had heating and higher battery consumption issues too. But we never heard anyone say ditch the phones which got that processor.

The hate against exynos going around the internet is due to the Exynos 2200 which was released in the Samsung S22 Series. It helped mask how bad the snapdragon 8 gen 1 was by being even worse.

The snapdragon 8 gen 1 heated a lot and had terrible efficiency resulting in phones with it having average battery life but the Exynos 2200 was even worse than that and people who bought the exynos version of s22 series suffered. Now, when I say suffered it was not like the devices were not usable but they performed poorer than the snapdragon versions.

Since, then people have become very apprehensive with Exynos. Even before that Exynos used to be barely on par with the latest snapdragon. Google's Tensor processors, which are based on Exynos, still suffer from the this legacy of exynos.

This generation of Exynos (the 2400) is good. It lacks in raw power compared to snapdragon 8 gen 3 but in day-do-day use (no hardcore gaming), you won't have any problem. At the end of the day, it is still a flagship processor!

Re: Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?

Here is a comparison between S24 Snapdragon vs S23 Snapdragon vs S24 Exynos. We can see the battery life is almost same between S23 and S24 Exynos. But there is an increase in battery size 100mah for S24. The display size is 0.1" bigger in S24.

S24 Snapdragon is comfortably ahead of other two in battery life.
The video is also talking about some color processing issues in S4 Exynos. Not sure how much real life impact this will have.

Re: Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?

I have been a big fan of Snapdragon, and every phone I have bought in the past 8-10 years or so have been snapdragon based, mostly because they have the best ROM support
I was also a pixel fan until google switched to a exynos chip and complaints started flooding in.

Re: Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?

S23 user here for last 10 months. I would suggest you to go with S23, only if your usage is light to moderate range. S23 FE comes with Exynos2200, notorious for sub par performance and underwhelming power efficiency. Samsung has however tried to improve with 2400 series in terms of performance ( Not in Snapdragon level, but respectable). Also power efficiency has not8ceqbly improved over it's previous generation. Infact Exynos's GPU which is co developed with AMD is quite better thqn Snapdragon's Adreno GPU.

Only downside of S23 is the battery life and sometimes 5G network does not work, especially with Airtel.

Also for a phone with Last year's Snapdragon 8Gen2, it does get warm and it could be felt on screen at times.

I would suggest you to consider S24 for a much respectable battery size and also signifucantly larger cooling chamber compqred to S23, even if the pricing is slightly higher.

Hi smrtdvl - I am using Samsung Galaxy S23, bought it within week of its launch from Samsung Corporate Programme. I would like to point out that S23 battery life is pathetic. I use it with dual SIM and from 100% to 50% reach within 6.5 hours with very moderate use. I don't listen music and hardly watch video during office hours (8.30am to 6.30pm). My primary usage is X (Twitter), news and WhatsApp. However, its performance and camera quality is fantastic.

I would suggest you to find out a handset with around 5000 mAH battery.

Would like to update that Samsung Galaxy S22+ (128 GB and SD 8 gen 1) is available for 60K at Flipkart and also at Samsung Stores.

Re: Snapdragon Vs Exynos processor | Your choice?

The FE series might be more suitable for Indian conditions(5G Coverage) , provided one is not into serious gaming. I have a S24 Plus with the Gen 3 Snapdragon (US version) and the 5G coverage with Airtel Sim is spotty. Airtel supports these 5 bands in 5G:-

1.N8(900MHz)
2.N3(1800MHz)
3.N1(2100MHz)
4.N78(3300MHz)
5.N258(26GHz)

The US version of the S24(with snapdragon) only supports N1,N78 and N258.

Anecdotal evidence points to the chinese/HongKong variant of the snapdragon version(S23/S24) having a better 5G coverage and aggregation in Asian cities. Do check the radio specifications before making the purchase. This is missed by a lot of folks during the purchase phase. Since you are referring to the S23/S23 FE , both are available in India and the phone radio should be optimized for our conditions.
