Re: The Home Appliance thread

Guys, I have GTPL cable box which is connected to my TV using a single pin on the cable box side & Yellow+White+Red pin on the TV side - i.e. the single pin from the cable box side splits into 3 wires which connect to the TV.

For last 3-4 months I have been facing an occasional problem of humming sound from the TV. I had written about it earlier & someone said it's some residual electricity in the cable connecting the TV & cable box & I should disconnect them & reconnect them after some time.

This does work - i disconnect the cable, switch of cable box & TV & switch on, reconnect & humming sound stops.

But then it happens again after a few days. Also sometimes, it takes 2-3 tries to make the humming to go.

Is there a permanent solution to this? Since this has never happened to me all my life, something must be causing this - is it the wires, is it the cable box or is the TV - there must be some problem in one of the 3 which causes this humming - how do I figure this out.

The red and white cables would be are the audio feeds in the RCA. To identify if one of the channels is causing the noise, try disconnecting the red / white individually.
If your set top box supports HDMI, try switching to that.

Alternately, if there are other audio outputs, like optical audio/3.5mm Aux , consider switching the audio feed using one of these.

Why is the reason any one of the 3 channels could cause noise? Is it because of a problem with the box or the wires or the TV?

Based on your description, it appears to be a loose connection in the cable.
Did you try to isolate the faulty cable?

There is only one cable, with 3 pins on one side, so I don't understand what is the point in figuring out which of the 3 pins (white/red/yellow) is the problem. I will try changing the whole thing & see if it makes a difference.

These are not White, Red Yellow for no reason. These are colour coded and have to be connected to respectively colour coded matching sockets.
Yellow is for Video, White for Audio Channel Left and Red for Audio Channel Right. Only Red and White are interchangeable or could function on just one of these connected.
It is likely that the Cable is not properly soldered to its connectors. Try reconnecting with any other set of cable.

Guys anybody using Panasonic NanoeG or NanoeX AC's from Panasonic. Are they really useful or is it just another marketing gimmick. Planning to get 2 NanoeX 1.5T models this week at any brick and mortar store nearby.

Re: The Home Appliance thread

We have a 2 door Whirlpool FF41 SS 405 litre (2010) model (Professional series) and very happy with this in terms of fuss free ownership and no breakdowns ever!
Now, we need a bigger refrigerator so I was looking at Whirlpool again few months ago and could see 500+ L capacity models. Yesterday we visited Croma and Girias and they mentioned Whirlpool does not have anything > 465L. I thought they were trying to just push the models that have in stock currently. But on checking the website, I do not see anything more than 465L!

Looking up on the websites, I guess my (only) options are now LG (516/547/630L) and Voltas Beko (510/610L). Any other options I'm missing ?

*Also, the shops mentioned that non-inverter refrigerators are now phased out and unavailable.

I also will be in the market for a new fridge soon. I was also wondering about Whirlpool but I am not so sure because there aren't much reports about their service good or bad. Is there service like Samsung & LG (both top notch) or is like Godrej (rotten) or somewhere in between. Does anyone have a long experience with Whirlpool after sales service?

Re: The Home Appliance thread

Any recommendations for a 16A Wi-Fi multi plug? Currently looking into Halonix Prime and Havells Crabtree. Can anyone using a Wifi multi plug share their experience- of the device and the respective phone app?

Thanks.

I'm using one since the last 2 years. It works similar to Sharps Plasmacluster and other similar ionizer based air purifier. It does what it's supposed to do i.e. keep dust and microbes out of the sir circulation by giving them a charge and making them stick to surfaces.

Thanks for the update bud. Am going ahead with the booking this weekend then. Just wanted to know if the AC can run separately as a air purifier alone during winters and how is the app support?

I have no experience with heat pump based water heaters. I have seen them put to good use for swimming pools. Imagine they will need some form of insulated water storage to keep the water hot.

If you have a piped gas connection, consider a gas based instant water heater. I use a Rinnai (Bosch makes them too). Provided your water line has good pressure, you can have a full pressure hot shower or fill a hot tub with steaming hot water. I have seen local brands such as V Guard and Racold make them too. Not sure if they operate under high water pressure. Worth taking a look. No need for water storage. They heat water in an instant. Very useful for the kitchen tap too as it makes it easier washing greasy vessels.

Yes it can be run in Purifier only mode. I would suggest that you supplement it with 3m AC filters to improve particulate matter removal
