We use the vacuum cleaner (eureka fobes dry-wet model) 3-4 times a year. Primary usage:- Cleaning mosquito mesh, cleaning cobwebs, cleaning fans, cleaning pillows and mattresses. Its tough to justify the high costs, but I see no alternative to achieve the above stated goals in a better way.

Thank you guys. I know the use will be limited but at times, we do really need one - to clean the French window mosquito mesh, clean the window rails, clean those hard to reach areas etc.

So, gave in to the temptation and ordered the Panasonic MC-CG303 from Amazon.in and opted for the next day delivery. Hope this will serve my purpose.

Not getting around to things can sometimes be good.

Some time ago, I got a bad shock from the case of our EB meter. The local engineer said it should be replaced, we had to write to this officer, that officer, waiting list (of course there was an alternative to the waiting list ;) ) etc etc etc. We didn't get around to it.

Yesterday, an EB man just turned up at our house with a new meter, part of the scheme now in effect to replace all the old mechanical meters, which I had read about but didn't think would actually happen.

So, we have a new meter. Apart from not trying to kill me if I accidentally touch it, it also has a button that cycles through heaps of different readouts. Some I think I can intuit --- but does anyone have the manual, or reference, or simply enough electrical engineering knowledge to list out what is being displayed, please? It is a Secure Swift 350.

@Thad; I have the manual of some Secure unit with me. I will try and fist it out. The sequence may be different but all info should be there. Can you PM me your id, so that I can scan and mail you a copy. I think I know where it should be.

Guys, planning to get a Faber baffle chimney. They say that it costs 500 just for installation and any parts will be charged extra. Any idea how much it costs finally for fitting and installation?

I did it on my own for my house. Main challenge was getting the hole done in the wall.

Additional cost will include doing the hole in the wall (if needed). Doing this with a drill will cost around 1000. Cost of 4inch plastic pipe (3ft costed 100 Rs). If your requirement is to have longer duct (which is going to be visible), you may want to go for aluminium pipe (looks good, otherwise no additional benefit over plastic pipe). No idea about the cost of this pipe.

Thankfully, there is a hole for the chimney duct. Also, I think it is better to go for the aluminium pipe from a safety perspective. Don't think it is a good idea to have plastic and hot exhaust mix :(

Ensure you ask them to make use of industrial grade aluminium pipe for the exhaust. Usually dealers try and push cheaper stuff to prospective buyers.

If it is a recirc type then it just involves fixing four screws to the wall. The template is provided. I did my own in 2001 when Faber were not in Kanpur. When I replaced a year ago, the same screws worked!

Check with them how much do they charge for the aluminium pipe per ft and the cost for the end cap. I recently installed an Elica chimney - the installation was 400, aluminium pipe rate was 50 rs per ft and I paid 150 rs for a plastic end cap and making the hole bigger for routing the pipe (the hole was small and the guy had to remove the plastic pipe and make a bigger hole, plus he had to use multiple clamps to fix the pipe since the length was around 16 ft).

Not sure about Faber but usually Elica gives 10 ft pipe for free if you bargain when you buy the chimney.

No, this is the one with a duct. Only problem is the drill - don't own one.

Ok, need to check how much they can provide me for free. And end cap - can you explain? Is that something fitted on so that nothing can get from the outlet?

Yes - it is a simple plastic cap they put at the end of the aluminium pipe so that small birds or debris cant enter the pipe from outside.

Also, do bargain on the rate for pipe also - I got varying quotes from 100 rs per ft to 50 rs per ft from different outlets.
