Most of the white goods merchants don't know how to tune the LCD to give the correct picture. I've always found them at full setting and always go and tone down the settings on all the panels.

However what is true is that the settings are internally changed at the manufacture level for different countries. For asian countries the panels are set to give an animation type of picture artificially done as the asians prefer that more.

The european models are toned down and give a very natural finish. This looks very dull in comparison to the asian ones but the European countries prefer that.

Oh Boy! Don't i call that striking gold. 30K is a steal for a 3 month old LCD. Enjoy and now don't forget to look for similar deal for a PS3 to enjoy your LCD ( which is exactly the opposite of what i did, bought a PS3 and to enjoy that got an LCD)

I am mighty pleased to report that i just received a cheque for ~ 6K as cash back for taking a loan for buying a 40" LCD. The deal was you need to pay 3 EMI's without bouncing your cheque and you get this cash back which was a pretty simple thing.

I had given up on this amount as i was calling the sales rep and his phone was disconnected and was thinking that i was taken for a "royal elephant ride" and out of the blue, i get this moolah.
So my LCD effectively costed me only 70K. Hail Citibank Financials!

Ok guys, need feedback. I have changed plans and decided to go for a LCD TV. I made 3 trips

Trip 1 - Samsung dealer below my home. Checked out this 26 inch LCD LA26A450C1 LCD TV - television SAMSUNG

MRP - 35000
Dic. Price - 32000 - 4000 for my old 29 inch Samsung.

Trip 2 -
Vijay Sales in Chembur. Checked out this 26 inch LCD LCD TV, Plasma TV,Colour Television, Audio Video,Computer Products,Mobile Phone,Refrigerator, Washing Machine,Vacuum Cleaner,Microwave Oven,Air Conditioner, CAC Products by LG Electronics India

Price - 32000 - 4000 for my old 29 inch TV. Also a HDFC bank CC EMI scheme for 9 months.

Trip 3- Reliance Digital at Vashi. Checked out this 32 inch LCD
Compare India - Televisions - LG-32LC7R

Price - 49900
Reliance Digital price - 39490 -2% disc - 2000 for old 29 inch TV.

While viewing I found the Samsung picture reproduction to be dull. The LG was dynamic and vivid. I asked the Vijay sales guy to set the color, brightness, contrast the same on both the LCd's and checked out the same channel side by side for a good 20 minutes.

What do you guys say ? Which is better ? Also the Sony one did not have that great picture reproduction.

Sharp / Philips / Videocon were ruled out.

Need immediate inputs - have to finalise before Monday.

NC Bhai -- Do make a trip to the Next electronics store nearby if u have one @ -- i went near to my place last weekend and the guys were pushing a Sony Bravia -- there was the LG 32" LCD tv next to it ( not as good as the bravia though) -- however they were ready to push it to 30K if i were to decide it then and there -- without any exchange involved

NC, Which series of Sony did you see at the showroom? I have a 40" V series and don't find any issues with the picture reproduction.

NEXT turned out to be a disaster. Only Videocon, LG and Samsung for display. I walked out.

CROMA in Mulund is offering 5000 on old 29 inch TV in exchange for 26 inch LCD TV. LG is for 32000 less 5000 = 27000 and Sony Bravia S400 for 34000 less 5000 = 29000.

Is the Sony a better TV than the LG ?

I feel the fight is amongst these 2 only now.

Go for the sony. I have had Sony TV (the normal one) for 5 years and the lcd for over 8 months now and never had any problems with them. Moreover i found the picture quality in bravia to be much better than LG.

NC,
Don't forget to check out Kohinoor. They advertise by saying" Kam se kam se kam daam" and I found this to be absolutely true! I bought my LG32LC7R from Kohinoor Vashi, and it was cheaper than at Reliance digital, Croma, Vijay sales and Next.
Just tell them the best price you are getting elsewhere and you are sure to get a better bargain.

guys my mom's TV died last night. No TV is her life and I have only one mom so here are the choices.

limitations
budget: 2.5-3L
must be LCD 46-52"

short list
Sony KLV-46X350A
Sony KLV-52W400A
Samsung LA52A650A1

P.S. had a talk with her. she can wait (will use living room tv) till post monsoon if (a) prices are expected to drop and better models are expected for Diwali.

Looking at the current inflation figures, I don't think the prices during Diwali will be any lower than what it is today.

3 Lacs and you look at LCDs? If I had that kinda budget, I'd head out immediately and grab a 50" 1080p Pioneer Kuro. Those LCDs don't hold a candle to the Kuro plasmas in picture quality and connectivity
