Strange, since that is not how it works in other places. Replacement would be initiated by them of course, since they sold the set to you.

Anyhow, you can talk to Philips via Live Chat on the Philips India website. Try that - just have your purchase details and S.No. handy with you.

Going to ambience mall to check at other stores..

Ok, so guys at reliance digital, as usual, are saying the ST 50 series hasn't been launched yet! They're giving ST 30 for 91K

They are right as well it seems. People I've spoken with as well are saying that ST50 has not been launched but GT50 & VT50 has been.. Probably Panasonic wants to avoid cannibalization of GT50 & VT50 by ST50... at least initially....?

Yes, I raised my problem with Philips and they sent their technician yesterday (it was a weekly off for them but still he turned up). He has checked the TV and confirmed that it is a defective piece and asked to check with Reliance and replacement has to happen immediately. If they have not turned up he assured me that Phillips will do the replacement but for that they need 5 days as a process. But in the entire story I am behind Reliance Digital and their customer service is totally amature.

The ST50 series has been launched but they're not in stores yet. I checked two stores (Panasonic Brand Shop on Dwarka and Jumbo electronics in Ambience Mall) and both of them have confirmed the models are in stock. Panasonic Brand Shop has quoted 102K and Jumbo 115K.

I also checked out Samsung E550 Plasma which is for 75K. So now I am planning to get one of these two...Any inputs on Samsung E550?

It might be a better idea to wait a wee bit and go in for Panasonic Plasma instead of Samsung. Did not concern myself with Samsung's Plasma so can't help you there..sorry!

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

After reading this thread extensively, it is clear that whether one decides to go with a plasma or a LCD/LED; one needs to invest in a Sound bar separately.
My question is whether it is better to go with a Sound Bar or a Home Theater System?

I am looking at buying multiple items from the following list and would appreciate if you could help me pair the best possible products:

1. LED TV
2. Tata Sky HD+ (I will need to upgrade my non HD Tata Sky to enjoy HD picture quality and sound. Not sure if the HD+ with recording capability is good or if I should invest in a Media Player)
3. Tata Sky HD instead of HD+ (This costs 4K less and instead I can use the USB feature in the LED TV to download and play movies
4. Sound Bar or Home Theater System (I need a lot of recommendations here)

Is there any TV or Sound Bar or a home theater system that can download movies directly using a Wi-Fi internet connection? Or is it best to stick to downloads on the computer and use the USB to play the movies? I don't see the need for a home theater system in this case.

I don't want to spend a lot and my budget is about 40-50K for the TV and another 10-15 K for the home theater/Sound Bar.

You are mixing up too many things!

1. The sound bar is supposed to improve the sound from the TV, as the TV speaker systems is not that great. The sound bar works nicely for broadcasts but ...

2. If you really want to immerse yourself in a movie (DVD/Bluray, not broadcast or TataSky type), a Home Theatre provides you the right experience, both from spatial resolution (imagine the sound of a fighter jet flying over you) as well as better sound coverage (from real lows e.g. the real sound of bomb blasts through the sub to tinkling highs) - THAT a Sound Bar can't do!

3. Modern TVs give you some facility of connecting to the Internet and looking at YouTube etc., but you are better off downloading (if I understand you correctly) the file, loading it in a pendrive, connecting the pendrive to the USB port on the TV, and playing that media

4. There are other devices like Media Players which can connect to diverse sources (from home LAN to Internet streaming sources), but that is not the same as 'downloading' and watching simultaneously

5. All the DTH services now provide the facility of Video on Demand, which needs an Internet connection to be given to the Set Top Box. This allows you to select, download and watch movies and other pre-recorded programs through the STB

Is it worth going for a Pana P42U30D at 43G at this time? I am interested in 2D HD only, and Pana seems to have discontinued that this year.

No. Nothing beyond 40 k. Ideal below 40 k.

ST65 is the entry level plasma with Neoblack panel. I assume it uses the same panel as GT and VT but with limited settings.

GT and VT come with THX settings which are reviewed by people to give the sets exceptional brightness levels.

VT also has higher levels of gradation providing better picture clarity.

In the store I visited with only two plasmas fitted on the wall (ST30 and VT20), VT20 ate ST30 for breakfast. ST50 supposedly eats ST30 and GT30 for breakfast and beats most LED backlit displays too so I wonder what VT50 will look like.

I have been confirmed a delivery for ST50 if I need but Cowardly lion has been informed that GT50 is out but ST50 is yet to arrive. I assume this is to clear the stocks as the showroom I visited also asked me to go for ST30.

I will try to get a special price and post it here soon.

Please count me in for 42ST50. If the price is right, I might go for 50ST50.
