re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

@zenstar - i saw the add i the paper, i guess Ezone was giving the Philips 46 at 54K, i picked up a Samsung 40" 5Series for the same price.
The only question i would have is it a demo unit, if not i think it is a good deal
If they have both units Philips Samsung LG check them out side by side and make a call.
Philips is a good brand and check for a longer warranty if possible.

Re: Philips 5000 Series LED TV

I got in touch with person who claims to be tha distributer to Samsung products. He is offering 33% discount on few models as they have damage on the outer box. Unable to decide weather is a good deal or gamble.

Please suggest.

P.S: I am looking to be buy 32" LCD/ LED

Generally dealers offer discounts on older stocks, check if that is the case. If the models are relatively new then with regular company warranty then you can go for it.

Also ensure that you see the piece physically and try to gauge what is the problem before releasing the payment.

The deal I got is from Reliance Digital. I found the Philips PQ Good in a side by side comparo. It was definitely not a Demo Piece, the same model is available at the 'Philips Arena' and Aadishwars at some 65k along with free 24" LCD. Also I got a 1+2 years warranty from Philips and an Additional 1 year from Reliance. Its some Reliace Care Plan, that takes care of all issues with the TV and also all my other devices at home. Got it delivered last night and will get installed today. Thanks for the pointers.

Never known a dealer to give this sort of discount for just a damaged packaging. Please check the piece thoroughly for any visible damage. If the warranty is there and the piece is not obsolete then buy it.

Some times dealers have old new stock lying in the warehouse which they try to palm off at a discount. In such case you can bargain and get upto 50% off.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Hi all, was looking to buy an LED and almost finalized on EX 700 series 32", I am getting a price of 48 odd K. The thing is I am inclined to wait and see if there are going to be any offers with world cup on cards, but the sales man was trying to tempt me by telling that the LCD prices are going to go up from February '11, so I have only one day to decide.

Though I think it is just a sick marketing gimmick, I would like to confirm before I actually plunge, are the prices actually going to go up from February?

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Purchased a Samsung LCD 6 series today for my dad after a month of dilly-dallying between LG/Samsung/Sony. Panasonic had some crazy viewing angles due to the IPS panels. But I guess we wouldn't be watching from such extreme angles. Nor do I intend to touch the screen whilst viewing; every salesman in Bangalore seems to demonstrate this...

Our requirements:
Should be 100hz(for whatever its worth), 40" and full HD capability.

Finally narrowed to Samsung LA40C630 & Sony 40EX500.
Negotiated the Samsung's price to 59k, when I was ready to make payment they said it's out of stock.... and offered LA40C650 for just 1k more, I knew this had a MRP ~ 77,900, oh what luck! we gladly accepted.
Final price for LA40C650 was 60k. This has a ultra clear panel + Internet connectivity.

The TV has been delivered today and we are yet to calibrate it properly, one thing it didn't play a blue ray rip which was in mp4 format, avi files were not a problem. Any suggestions?
Otheriwise the TV is looking good. I can sleep peacefully from now on....

cheers,
Raihan

When I was at the showroom I saw a Sony 32" EX710 and that thing is so tiny we felt it would be a downgrade from our 29" CRT (size wise) did you not feel it with 32" EX700?
good luck

@ Volkman congrats & how much did u pay for the 6 LED?

I did not quite get you. You mean to say 29" CRT seemed bigger than 32" LCD?

By the way there are no physical differences between EX700 and EX710, there are a few features like ambient and presence sensors added!

Yes LCD are trim with a narrow 15-30mm border. In contrast most of the 29" CRT had a generous border with speakers placed on sides, hence the visual effect.

By the way, be wary of Sony LCD. Sony used to make CRT in house, hence their stellar reputation, but are outsourcing LCD TV manufacturing, resulting in a lot of quality issues, especially at the end of warranty period. You will get better TV at lower cost from the Korean manufacturers as they manufacture the TV in house.
