Voila! Our LA40C630 easily detected 1TB Seagate Expansion External Drive. So storage of BluRay rips are no more a worry.

Cheers!

LG Plasma 42PQ60

Had bought a LG Plasma 42PQ60 last year during Diwali. Nowadays on the lower left corner there are some red 'snow storm' kind of dots is appearing. Not permanent, but appears often.

I googled for the reason, seems its a voltage issue with this LG model and many have complained about. Seems some Y board has to be changed. I started noticing this just after the TV came out of the warranty period. I have no extended warranty, its a crazy 4500/yr (now I understand why)

For now I have to just bear it I suppose, but if it progressively gets bad, must look for a replacement.

This sounds similar to old CRT TVs. If vertical sync power supply or Yoke coil coupling capacitors (Electrolytes) used to get dry or leaky then corners used to get noise or dark spots. These used to get moving like clouds and vanish within 5-10 minutes of warm up.

As these flat panels are stationary pixels with no raster or deflection yoke required, Y-board looks related to same vertical sync.

And now we are in age where no repair only replacement is an option available. Can you get out that board and replace all available electrolyte capacitors with same value? This would take less than 100Rs as part costs. Just take help from any repair guy offer him good amount for finding and replacing properly.

I am happy for my Panasonic due to 3 years warranty. In this same forum I read about Panasonic exchanging complete unit with newer version after finding issues of 30 months usage.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Purchased a 46" Philips LED HDTV with Blueray DVD and a basic HTS from Reliance Digital yesterday. Also got Airtel HD TV free with it.

the entire setup costed 88K, pretty reasonable. Paid 101/- for it. Rest in interest free 10 EMIs Easy documentation and process. Real satisfactory experience.

Living life out of EMIs!!

Image quality that exceeds beyond reality - PS50C6500 - Plasma TV - Television | SAMSUNG=

My friend bought the Samsung PS50C6500 for 72K on ebay India. Actually the dealer who is based in Hyderabad was willing to give it for 68K if he was ready to pay in cash!

On enquiring in a couple of places in Bangalore, the same model was available for around 95K+

I had picked up my first LCD (26") Samsung nearly 5 years back. It a HD ready and has served our family well.
I was always looking out for Large Screen Display 40" or above
With Diwali last month they were some very interesting offers going around. On visiting the local Unilet outlet i was amazed on the deals on LG and Samsung. LG had a very nice Plasma 42" HD ready for around 40K. The LG 42 LCD was around 53K or so.
Having a Samsung before and a Samsung Wave mobile we decided to stick Samsung.
I was interested in the 6series for the 100Hz technology but the offer price was above 60K, so i settled for the 5 series LA40C550, with the specail offer of 54K. With this we get Airtel HD DTH and a Samsung 12MP digital camera. (its been a month and i still need to get the camera)

Lets get down to the LCD TV.
The LA40C550 looks great,
1.USB support with HD Divx - able to directly read from Transcend320GB HDD (NTFS format) mp4/avi (download and watch)
2. The inbuilt speaker system is also quite good.
3. nic port for All Share use (not internet ready) (hooked up via NeatGear wifi router) so my Samsung Wave can share video/pics/music via the wifi.
Have a specific question regarding the All Share function. I have a wireless home network setup already and would love it if the TV can access the media files over the network. For that along with the TV would I also need the Samsung Wireless Adapter? There also is an Ethernet LAN port in the spec sheet. Can that be put to use?
I am also confused about going for the Sony 40 NX 500 or this one. Suggestions welcome . With the thought of survival in place 60 K whereabouts is the max I can plock in !

Are you sure it was 54.5K ??? I struck this model out of the shortlist only for the price :-(

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

@ri - The nic port can be used instead of buying a wifi adapter for the TV. This would however depend on the distance the wifi router is from the TV. My Netgear router has 4 nic ports and is located around 8feet away from the TV, so i just connected a network cable between the two. The TV pics up the IP address from the DHCP and is ready for use. So if your media center supports the All Share feature you would be good to go.

As for the price of the 6 series that myavu got i guess it was in Delhi and not Bangalore.

I would suggest going in for the 6 series instead of the Sony 40NX500. I have been informed the LCD panels for sony and samsung are the same, while LG and Panasonic are the same. IMHO i would invest in the 100Hz tech of the 6 series.
I am not sure if the Airtel HD STB offer is still on, the voucher i got was valid till 30th Nov.

if you have any other questions on the LA40C550 do let me know and I would be happy to help out.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

any latest feedback on the panny p50v20d - the vt is too expensive and I am seriously considering the 50v20. Also whats the right price for this - is it still 1.1 Lacs or have prices dropped. I will be buying this in pune.

Yes, not a single penny more. Next quoted 55.9K. Another Samsung dealer in Gurgaon MGF Mall quoted 60,000/- W/O Airtel Box.

Cheers!

@Myavu - you are very lucky to get the 6 series at that price. I will try and update Fw on my TV and lets see how it goes. Are you using the Airtel HD STB or any other STB HD Source?

@ yajaman99 Now using the worst- SUN Direct SD. Awaiting TATA HD to start service here in Delhi. FW update is a must. The blackness had increased many fold and so the Dynamic contrast.

How much did you shell out for LA40C550?

Cheers!

Vinu

@myavu - the offer price was Rs 54K- freebies were the Airtel HD STB (which you need to pay rs750 as recharge voucher) and a 12.1MP FujiFlim Camera (AV100) (it was supposed to be a Samsung camera but got this instead)

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

i got an offer of a samsung 6 series 58" plasma for 1.4L - Image quality that exceeds beyond reality - PS58C6500 - Plasma TV - Television | SAMSUNG
Does anyone think this is worth it?
We are in a position where we can be anywhere between 9 feet to 15 feet of viewing distance as we are still setting up our furniture in our large hall.
Realistic options so far look like panny p42v20d or p50v20d for 66k and 1.07L respecitively. But this 58" sammy really blew my mind away :-) (not seen pq just by sheer size)
