It was a two day promotional offer (or maybe Dubai recession offer), I got it for 4999 AED! (~ 63k INR). The regular price is 7000 AED+ (86k INR, same as in India).

I bought the Panasonic TH-42LZ80 after comparing the Samsung 530 and 550 series. I did a side by side comparison with the same channel and Airtel DTH.

Got them set to the factory default. I felt the Panasonic was better in terms of Picture Quality. A neighbor bought the samsung LA40B530P7R, just 3-4 days before I did. He confirmed that the Panasonic quality is better than Samsung.

I paid 52k after all discounts from Adishwar's in HSR layout. Though I stay near Innovative Multiplex and there is a Aadishwar's but did not get a good deal. The final price quoted by Aadishwar's Maratahalli was 53,500/-.

However, the symptom it shows is sure for a burnt bulb (bulb light on the front pannel keeps flashing red).

I'm going to show that to a Sony world show room guy and going to find out the price. I see that Sony is selling entire assembly for the bulb and not just the bare bulb. If I can get the bare bulb from the market, I can make use of the same assembly and replace the bulb in the assembly myself.

It seems Sony is using Osram bulbs (SONY XL-2400 XL-2500 DLP Lamp/Bulb - Rear Projection TV en venta en eBay.es (finaliza el 08-ene-10 04:11:11 H.Esp)). Need to confirm that once I visit Sony World - It should be the same what was used with the Sony grand Wega (earlier model).

Has anyone got any idea about the price in India? is it a good idea to source it from somewhere else! If I can find out the correct specs from the old Osram bulb, I believe it shoud be easy for me to contact Osram folks in Bangalore and simply request them for this bulb that I can replace in the existing assembly.
Anyone has got any inputs on this!!!

Are you talking about TH-P42C10D?
Here in Pune, I paid 43K for it (including wall mount).

Compare india price was 38K-46K, but they added handling and tax 12.5% though offered free shipping. I felt its good to get it from local dealer.

Was looking at the contrast rating for the samsung and panasonic. Panasonic is 15000 dynamic , whereas for the 550 series it stands at 70000 dynamic. Shouldnt this make a significant difference in viewing? Am i missing something here?

I think the contrast ratio will make a difference when we have HDTV broadcast. But for the Normal DTH with MPEG4 and DVB2 Technology should not make any difference. I had the same apprehension that you are having currently about the ratio, but got it cleared when I compared Airtel - Panasonic with factory settings, and Airtel - Samsung with factory settings. I played Discovery, Animal Planet, colors, ESPN channels to get it sorted.

Need a suggestion here "O TV Lords"

A friend wants to sell his Philips 55" Projection TV which is in good condition. I am interested in buying it but don't know what to offer for it.

What should be the price that I can offer him?

Ketan, getting these projector bulbs is difficult here and those to match the specs. Even if you do get it and replace by yourself your warranty on TV is going to be void. So your best option is to get it replaced by sony.

Checked out prices yesterday - 32" Sony V550A was 42900/- and 32" Samsung 550 was 43200/-. Display looked equally good. But one negative about Samsung - it doesn't play movies from the USB port directly - only photos and music. Isnt that a big plus for any LCD TV? Any other Samsung series that plays movies directly from the USB?

I have a year old 32" Samsung 4 series LCD. Picture quality is absolutly stunning even though it isn't full HD. I did a thorough research and checked all available brands then. There were only two finalists. SONY and SAMSUNG. i chose it for quality and VFM. So far not a single problem. I paid 36000 for this agaisnt 49000 for sony 32" v series.
