Re: Your Mobile History

Interesting thread. Looks like my refresh frequency of around 3 years is abnormally high!

Also, all my phones seem to have high longevity (like those Maruti ad that says about fuel efficiency)

Here is my list:

2005-2007: Nokia 6021 (Was working fine till 2013)
Your Mobile History-nokia6021.jpg

2007-2011: Sony Ericsson K810i (still serving as my dad's second phone)
Your Mobile History-k810i.jpg

2011-2013: HTC Mozart (fully functional even now, except a weak battery)
Your Mobile History-htc7mozart.jpg

2013-till date: HTC 8X (no complaints)

Re: Your Mobile History

A huge list:

Starting in 2003:

1. Nokia 3310 (12 years ago) - 2 years
2. Samsung R220 (left it on terrace in rain, died) - a few months
3. Samsung (some 2G enabled color screen model) - 2 years
4. Sony Ericsson W550 (many many years)
5. Nokia 2366i (flip phone with basic features) - 2 years
6. Motorola VU204 (flip phone) - a few months
7. Motorola Defy Plus (a few days, stolen).
8. Nokia 1280 (can't get more basic than this) - 1.5 years
9. Motorola MotoG (8-9months) - current phone.

Whoa, those are way too many phones for one person.

The other day when traveling by train, I overheard two men talking to each other. One of them was saying how he's been using the same Nokia phone since 2001 - he has been getting it repaired all these years. Look at me being so wasteful.

Re: Your Mobile History

Bought the first one when call rates were more reasonable i.e. within Rs. 10 per minute

Started with the big Boss

Your Mobile History-siemens-sony-cmd-1000.jpg

Siemens CMD 1000

Then came the lizard.
Your Mobile History-nokia-7110.jpg

Nokia 7110. Those who have used / seen it can relate to the 'lizard' moniker

Followed by the perfect sized phone ever
Your Mobile History-sonyericssont68i2002colorstothepeople.jpg

Sony Ericsson T68i, the first coloured screen phone.
This is the only phone that i have lost to date, left in a taxi in Putrajaya. All others except the Torch were destroyed by adverse reaction due to repeated exposure to chemical fluid.

The era of the working man's phones dawns
Your Mobile History-bb-8700g.jpg

Black Berry 8700G
This is/was one rugged phone. Numerous drops, spills could not destroy the phone. Ultimately the side track wheel went bad other wise would have continued to use this.

Followed by

Your Mobile History-blackberry_torch9860_25.jpg
Black Berry Torch 9860
First experience with touch screen and was amazingly fast. Infact the best touchscreen typing till date (including my experience on other formats/phones)

This phone was destroyed by of all things, an update of WhatsApp. The thing just hung in the middle of reboot and never revived.

Advent of Android (for me that is)
Your Mobile History-moto-g-2nd-generation-1.jpeg
This brought me to my first true blue smart phone the MOTO G 2nd generation.
Nothing wrong with the phone but having used it for a couple of months now, I find the form factor a bit too big and am eagerly awaiting the launch of the one below so that can once again go Black - Berry that is

What the future holds
Your Mobile History-bb_classic.jpg

BB Classic. Want this because the trackpad is making a come back. The absence of the trackpad is what kept me from replacing the Torch with another BB.

Hi Boss,
That's a lot of mobile phones you're talking about. Even if you changed 50% of your mobile phones that are on your list, you would have saved a lot of money; if you think about it.

Seriously YES. But the point is most of those mobiles were from other countries and unlocked. Got a good friend whose brother owned a mobile shop and got them for atleast 60~70% of price in India. So after using them I sold most of the mobiles for the same cost (no loss no gain) This helped me from losing a good amount of Vitamin-M.

Re: Your Mobile History

Not much into updating mobiles, updating the details here just for the record:

2006-2009: nokia 1600. Now used by the farm labourer, battery replaced by an original BL-5C recently.

2009-august 2013: Nokia 2700 classic- updated just to get a camera phone. Now used by the cook. Same battery.

2013-now: HTC explorer. Just wanted a GPS equipped phone for using google maps. Android experience is a bonus.
