I upgraded to the latest version of the software i use for CAD/CAM Designing Surfcam with TrueMill (Surfware, Inc. A Global Leader In CAD/CAM Systems) after having the 2003 license (expensive to upgrade every year!).

The new version was a tad slow on my 8 month old Notebook (Technology!) as the new software needed a high end hardware setup.

So i placed an order for a new assembled Desktop w/o monitor:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghx Processor
XFX Nforce 630i 7150 Desktop Motherboard
Intel G31 Express Chipset, Max 4GB RAM Support
8MB Cache Memory, 1066Mhz FSB, Quad Core
4GB DDR2 RAM PC 800Mhz 2GB x 2 (DDR3 still is very expensive)
500GB SATA HDD 7200rpm
Integrated Nvidia 7150GPU
Integrated Audio Subsystem
4 * Serial ATA Interface, 1 * Parallel ATA Interface
Integrated Giga LAN
HDMI, DVI, SPDIF Ports
1 * PCI Express x 16 bus Add-in connector
Tower Chassis with 450Watts Gold Power Supply & Cooling Fan
6 * USB 2.0 Ports

Adding to it a Transcend 32GB Pen Drive

Monitor i plan to get my personal 26" LCD from home as this desktop supports HDMI output & get a newer bigger Television at home.

Any of you have suggestions?

9600GT is not truely a gamer card. Crysis with everything high, the game is not playable anymore.
Best is ATi. I agree that availability of 4830 will be an issue, and going by the present pricing of 4850, IMO, the cost will be higher than 6.5k, but not much. May be around 7K.
9800 is again a great buy, but the ATi cards perform better in certain applications and if I am not wrong, they are less affected by AA.

And the driver part is not at all difficult. Its a peanut. Just installing the nVidia drivers and installing ATi.
Did that three months back. 3850 that I bought for friend was not performing at all in his mobo. Checked in my system ( worked better than my 7300 GT ) and was OK. We eventually changed his mobo.

No difficult part here.

EDIT : How about 3850 ? It will cost around 6-6.5K and performs almost as good as 9600GT.

@ swami, well crysis with everything at high will not work well in most setups, i guess unless its like really high end with stuff like the latest 280 GPU's etc. So that would not be the benchmark I would like to use. Looks like its going to be a close fight between the 4850 and the 8800GT, what do you guys recommend? 8800gt seems to be a gamers delight as of now.

mav i think crysis is overated! It worked on medium settings on 8600GT now it works on high settings on 8800GT. Other Games like FARCRY 2 and FALLOUT 3 work like a charm too. all high settings and antialiasing @ 4x or 8x

8800GT and 9800 GT are the the at core level, but the clock and memory speeds may vary and hence performance could be different. May be 65nm or 55nm, but 8800 is a great performer.
At the other end 4850 is also a very good performer. It is as good as or better than 8800GT.
You are correct about Crysis. This game can bring GTX280, 4870 to knees. Its only the 4870X2 that can play with ease and is not affected by AA due to its dual core nature.

Now coming back to topic, if 8800GT is available cheaper than 4850 with atlesat 512 MB DDR3 memory, then go for 8800gt or else go for 4850.

thanks man, lets see how it pans out. Whats your feeling on the 9600gt? i heard its as good as the 8800? i doubt that as it seems to be cheaper than the 8800, which is also an older model.

8800GT is old but based on G92. So the basic core is the same as 9800GT. As I said earlier, the clock speed vary.
And as far as gaming is concerned, 8800GT is better than 9600GT.
8800GT blew everyone away after it hit the market because of reason that it shares its underpinnings with 9800GT.

The entire 9800GT was a joke IMHO, there was absolutely no difference between that and 8800GT and thats the reason why it didnt do that well.

As for the GTX 280 and GTX 260, its a joke !

Its good to see ATI is dominating after a long time and Nvidia's daylight robbery being kept in check

Help regarding computer configuration.

My friend has budget of 25K.
He wants a new CPU and I am the one to decide the configuration.
I want all your possible inputs.

My computer vendor said this as 30K
1) Processor : AMD Athlon X2 5200+
2) Mobo : MSI K9N Neo ( mcp 560, no onboard graphics ).
3) RAM : 4X1GB DDR2 800 MHz, Transcend.
4) HDD : Seagate Barracuda 500GB 16 MB buffer.
5) Cabinet : IBall Gamer.
6) Graphics card : 9600GT

Now what is considered.
Processor : C2D E7200
Mobo : MSI P43Neo.
RAM : 2X2GB Dynet 667 MHz DDR2
HDD : Same as above.
Cabinet : Same as above.
Graphics card : 9600 GT.

some people are trying to sell him some Rs. 2100 MSI mobo for E7200.
The computer will be mainly used for 3DS MAX 11.
How do you feel for the quote given by my computer vendor ?
What are your opinions ?
