When a disc sells more than 4 million copies(dont remember the exact number)..then it becomes a platinum edition and its prices are slashed.

Guys, need your inputs
Planning on buying one around 15 Jan.
I am currently in Mysore and think it'l be better to get one from Bangalore. As am new to this part of the country, it'l be great if you could point me to some stores which can offer me a good deal.

Also, whats the current deal like? I mean prices and the freebie games etc??

I assume you are deciding between the two. You can get the PS3 slim 120GB for 20K while the Xbox 360 arcade is 17K. Note -none of them provide you with the necessary HDMI or component cables. Both ship with the basic composite cables. The PS3 will come with one game free (nowadays I think you get Uncharted 2 or COD-Modern Warfare 2). I dont know about teh xbox but it does come with some basic game disc containing five arcade games including PACMAN and UNO.

PS3 advantages are
  • Easily upgrade your storage space - you can always pop in a larger HDD anytime and its damn easy to do it.
  • PS3 has some very stunningly beautiful and visually appealing exclusive games line Uncharted (1&2) / MGS4 / Killzone
  • Bluetooth / Wifi connectivity
  • Free PlayStation network means free online gaming (XBOX charges you for it)
  • Easy online firmware upgrades.
XBox advantages
  • Easy to develop games than PS3
  • Larger collection of games
New game prices are almost same anyways (around 2-2.5K). Haven't used the Xbox so cant comment on it much.
In the end. Every console has its pros and cons. Same as cars - there is no best car.

Only one suggestion, If you are a big FPS fan, I would suggest stick to PC gaming, it is much more easy and fun shooting down enemies with the mouse than with the gamepad.

I would add some:

PS3 (this is the biggest draw for it IMO):
BD player included, can play movies from external HDD as well (only FAT32 though, so restrcited to 4GB size)

xbox:
Exclusive games (Forza series, Halo 3/ ODST, Gears of War series etc.)
Can be hacked
3 Year warranty as compared to one year for PS3

Custom Duties on Playstation 3 shipped from USA

hi,
one of my family friend in california has bought a ps3 slim for me and is planning to ship it to India. he would be shipping a ps3 slim console and uncharted 2 disc. Would i have to pay any customs/duties and how much ? is there any way to avoid it ? please give all possible solutions or suggestions. i believe the total shipment value should be anywhere between $350 - 380$ including console and the game disc.

i dont think you have have to pay duties for the ps3. but just to make life easier ask your friend to mark it as a gift and write a slightly lower value.

Does your family member carry other items too, if not just relex and pass through green channel. No one will stop.
On safer side remove box packing etc.

Are you sure? When I last checked slim used to come without any games with it. And nowhere any discounts available . Phat makes more sense as it comes with Unchartedrakes Fortune and GT5 Prologue and you can easily get some discounts too. But I think it's available only till stocks last.

And one of the best blu-ray players.

Ummm, I guess it's more about getting used to it. KZ2 rocks in PS3. UC1 and UC2 (although TPS) also rocks with shooting.

I had seen bundled old PS3 consoles in croma many times so assumed that PS3 slim would almost definitely ship with one.

Yup totally agree with that. I have streamed so many movies from my PC to my HDTV using Tversity and it works amazingly good.

Well I find the mouse more faster and more accurate while aiming and shooting. I have played both KZ2 and UC1 and am still not that fast with the gamepad. I thought of buying the FragFX FPS controller from play-asia but haven't been able to find someone who has used it and can recommend it.
