Thanks! I used to think the same but it doesn't work. I am going to disconnect the connection and take a new one - thats the way suggested by Tata Photon outlet - ridiculous in today's world it seems.

You can. If you want to make your laptop as wifi hotspot, just download connectify. If you want a router based solution, you need a router with USB port. Just plugin the Tata Photon USB stick to the router and you are done.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Ordered a Digisol USB data card from snapdeal yesterday. The build quality looks good in the pictures and reviews for the product are good too. Its my first purchase from snapdeal Let's see how it goes. I have opted for CoD. Anyone using Digisol data card here?

Re: USB Data Card with around Rs 500/- Monthly Plan?

Could you please advise us on a USB Data Card with good network coverage in B'lore? The usage is mostly for surfing, not much downloads. The monthly refill should be within Rs 500.

Please advise!

I am currently using the Tata Photon data card that you can plug into your Car charger. Have been using this in the car( I have a driver), pretty decent.
Tested the speeds and have got between 1 MBps to 4 Mbps while the car is in motion. I am on a ₹600 monthly plan and it covers 3 GB data at these speeds and unlimited post that at 54 Kbps. Have never exceede the 3 GB as this is always used only in the car. Hope this helps.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

I am paying 850Rs for Reliance CDMA and the speed is not as good as it should be I believe especially when I travel in suburbs outside of Mumbai upto Dahanu.

Plus on my MAC this dongle has drive issue so I am using it off of another Wi-Fi dongle.

I am thinking of moving from CDMA to 3G or something that works well in Mumbai suburbs and other Metro cities.

Please suggest between Tata, Airtel, MTNL or Vodafone 3G?

Using BSNL 3G for few months now. The speed is good and the plans are very economical. Most of the times, a 1GB plan is sufficient for a months usage. Costs just Rs. 139/- for 1GB plan for 30 days.

I guess for Mumbai it would be MTNL? I use this for Work for Home and customer service for any issues with the dongle is also very important.
Is MTNL and BSNL service good? As far as I can tell for my landline their call center sucks. They would always ask me to contact the local phone exchange and deal with different staff there one on one.

BSNL is good unless you don't need the customer care However, services are cheap and very reasonable with no hidden costs and that is the main point of using it. Connectivity in remote areas, esp. when using cell phones and internet dongles is another point.
But being one cell phone customer too of BSNL, at times (not frequently) I have faced issues like repeated call dropping. However, I am satisfied with the internet connectivity it has to offer.

Regards,
Saket

Anyone else facing speed issues with data card recently?

I'm getting only ~0.5 Mbps from my Reliance Netconnect+ and Vodafone 3G data cards.

Data speeds have been divided between Seema Andhra and Telangana State also Central government has not released the entire bandwidth till paperwork is in place...you get the picture

Isn't Hyderabad still the joint capital, meaning 50+50=100%? Looks like they did a 50-50=0% instead!

Telangana government had announced making Hyderabad Wifi enabled or something. If these speed are to be called Wifi from now on, I guess the GPRS coverage makes it already 'Wifi' enabled!

I recently purchased a Vodafone 3G dongle for Mumbai and national roaming mainly in an attempt to get better speed. I have to admit I switched back and now struggling to return the dongle. I never got more than 2 Mbps and mostly lower speeds. I am happy with my Reliance CDMA one. The major issue with reliance dongle is it crashes on my MacBook.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

My friend is consistently getting 5 to 8 mbps on his Airtel 3g dongle. Seems its the fastest of the lot. My Vodafone 3g hardly ever gets anywhere close to 2mbps.
I'm thinking of switching to Hathway 50mbps broadband connection which is advertised on the set top boxes nowadays.
