Hopefully! They have been around for over 10-years now.

IMHO, the biggest constraints are 1. Being at the right place at the right time 2. Improving how one sees and visualises and anticipates.

Technical mastery over gear should be a hygiene factor if one shoots seriously. Camera is just a tool.

And for end result, nothing beats 'being there'.
+Infty to that. For myself, I find it easier to be technically sound and be good with the science and engineering aspects of photography - used to do a bit of lens design and image analysis etc. However, been trying to get better with the artistic aspects of it! Will get there.

Try https://bangalore.craigslist.co.in. Everyone uses Craigslist in the US and I have no idea why it is not being used in India much. You could also try fredmiranda.com or https://photography-on-the.net/forum/

If using fred or potn do mention if you want to sell locally.

I've sold 100's of camera equipment on fred and potn and it is feedback driven. I really wish more people in India use these.

@benbsb29; Today finding film is the main pain. Most have stopped making film. I also have two bodies Olympus OM1 & 2 and two lenses 24mm, 75-150mm (both Zuiko); and a 2x tele converter. If you find a buyer please let me know.

Re: The DSLR Thread

I think more than the camera, its the lenses which are the most important part of the deal, a basic DSLR with fantastic lenses and ofcourse someone with a vision and idea of photography can do wonders.

Let me show you some of the clicks from my 550D, I got it in 2011, its more entry level than today's entry level cameras, but check out the shots it comes up with

The 1st and 4th one are with the Sigma 10-20 with Hoya HD Circular Poloriser, rest are with the Canon 1.8 STM.

If someone wants to do photography, I would urge them to spend more on the lenses and less on the camera body, even something with an APSC sensor would do, get something in the 50-60 K range for the camera body and spend rest on the lenses for the kind of photography you are interested in.

Try Olx. I got decent deals from Olx in Bangalore when i tried to sell my camera. Not sure how popular is Facebook marketplace in Bangalore. You can try that as well. FB will be a trusted choice for used items as there is an identity of the person from whom it is bought.

I agree completely. For most of the beginners it is difficult to exceed the limitations of the basic body.

In fact if the sensors are similar in performance, I would suggest getting the least expensive body. In my case after evaluating the 3xxx, 5xxx and 7xxx series of Nikon Bodies, I decided to go for the D3300. All that it lacked compared to more expensive bodies is related to ease of use, multiple buttons/display and in case of 7xxx series two card slots and professional water resistance. In fact the sensors are similar in DR and size.

For those who are starting with DSLR the D3300 with its kit lens is ideal. It is cheap, it takes excellent images and you can build up the kit by acquiring various quality lenses as time goes. At current state of the market a D3300 kit with body, kit 18-55mm lens, card and bag is hovering around 30K. The Canon Kit is even less.

One advantage of starting with a basic kit is that in case your interest peters out in a few months or DSLR is not your thing, you loose peanuts in the resale.

If you stick around for a year, you will get an idea of what you want either in the body or lenses, and then start upgrading the kit.

Its been two years now since I stepped into this vast World of photography. Over the period of time I've identified my area of interest as wildlife and bird photography.

I've acquired a Tamron telephoto 150-600 lens with the basic body. But now I feel I lack something.

May be the focusing speed, the sharpness, low light performance. By the time I start focusing on my subject it would have flown away.

Action shots of birds and wildlife take a beating. Hence I concluded that I should upgrade my gear.

It's a forum. Most active section is buy and sell. Covers all India.

I have bought two lenses from members, and had two good experiences, but usual warnings about buying/selling from/to strangers apply, as they would anywhere.

If you are travelling out of the country sometime, you could try craigslist and ebay.

Amazon has been updating their seller policies all the time. I haven't checked recently, but have sold some books on it. May be they now have policies for individuals to sell cameras too. One may need to check on it.

Local photography clubs and chapters including the astronomy clubs: If they permit, you could post it there with a contact id etc.

OLX/Quikr - I am not very fond of these, but have managed to sell stuff on them when moving one place to another.

Re: The DSLR Thread

Folks, i am back after a long hibernation. I was into photography almost 5-6 years back but kinds fell off the radar due to many different factors. Now i have rekindled my inner photography spirit. I got my old D3100 out of the attic but not very happy with the photos from it with the 18-55mm kit lens. Planning to get a better beginner's camera. I have shortlist the following from Amazon. Its D5600 with 18-55mm lens and 70-300mm lens for about 49K. Plus i will get additional 1500 off for HDFC and 1000 as Amazon money.

I want to check if buying from Amazon is safe or should i check out any brick & mortar store in BLR? I also need to sell my old D3100 too.
https://www.amazon.in/Nikon-D5600-18-55-70-300-Memory/dp/B01N58T6KA/ref=sr_1_5?m=A14CZOWI0VEHLG&s=electronics&ie=UTF8& qid=1541130344&sr=1-5&keywords=B00JM4VE0A%7CB01LY8TW3M%7CB01N58T6KA%7C B01N6H41JP%7CB01KITZRBE&refinements=p_6%3AA14CZOWI 0VEHLG

What would be a good asking price for the D3100? It is pretty old, at least 7-8 years old.

Hey, any reason for selling the D3100 other than its old? Is it working well? If Yes, then I would suggest giving it a good cleanup maybe at a professional camera place and spending the 49-50 k you wanted to spend on a new camera on the lenses.

What kind of photography are you into? I think everyone in their arsenal should have the 50 mm 1.8, its a superb fast lens and you can get magazine type shots with it over time when you keep honing your photography skills

Secondly according to the type of photography that works for you you can invest in a wide angle, telephoto etc.
