Good improvements in buffer. According to DPR this is as close you can get to the long awaited D400 without the build quality of the older model.

May be this is what you've been waiting for

To quote:

For a long time, Nikon shooters have been awaiting the arrival of a D400, or some kind of replacement for the D300S. We think that camera is the D7200. It offers the same continuous shooting performance as the D300S (but now at 24MP) while adding a significantly better AF system and 60p video recording.

Re: The DSLR Thread

If not already mentioned, Nikon has unvieled the D7200

... features a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter (OLPF) and the EXPEED 4 image processing system. It adds increased buffer capacity compared to the D7100, includes new Picture Controls and also offers Nikon Snapbridge, whereby users seamlessly shoot and share photos from the camera to a compatible smartphone or tablet via built-in Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication (NFC). The D7200 features 30% faster image processing which now allows the camera to shoot 18 consecutive RAW 14-bit lossless compressed images, 27 12-bit compressed shots or 100 JPEG frames.

Just ordered him an RX-100M2 off Flipkart. He likes the compact footprint and it more than meets his requirements. Should be delivered in a week or so.

Thanks for the pointer!

Re: The DSLR Thread

Just when I have almost convinced myself to move to FX, I encounter situations where a heavier set-up (i.e. a longer, more unwieldy lens) would have meant missing the shot.

400mm shot in DX - 600mm equivalent. 3-4 secs of opportunity to get the angle, focus and take the shot. But a full frame - with equivalent reach - would have resulted in better IQ (this is an ISO 1100 shot in the shade), and better subject isolation.

The endangered Lion-tailed macaque. Valparai. One of those crazy trips where I landed up in Valparai at 12.30 am in the night, and left the next afternoon.

Re: The DSLR Thread

which is better guys? -

Tamron 70-200 f2.8 di vc usd or Canon 70-200 f2.8 without IS?

Canon is slightly less expensive than tamron, but tamron has VC which canon is lacking.

The Canon would be better. Try & get that - esp the L series . IMO, Tamron, at least for now is still a third party glass. Quality can vary piece to piece.

The biggest risk with 3rd party lenses is the reverse engineered AF system that may break with a future canon body. Even on existing bodies, there are complaints of mis-focus and slower focus, so I would prefer the OEM lenses.

Read the conclusions from dpreview on the 70-200 non VC tamron lens.

Yes, I do. Bought one last year. Are you planning to buy one? These are heavily discounted nowadays. Recommended walk about lens with good performance.

Just a note - Nikon makes the 80-400 D and now the new 80-400 G. Of these 2 get the G, it has much better performance across the zoom range compared to its predecessor.
