I have a few queries on my mind and would definitely like them to get clarified.

1) How good are sigma lens ? are they on par with the nikkor lens ?

2) which lens would be best suited for my usage ? (wont be using a tripod so vr or image stabilization is a must)

-----120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG APO OS HSM SIGMA

-----
150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM SIGMA

-----
50-500mm F4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM SIGMA

------80-400mm F4.5-5.6 D ED NIKON VR

All of the above lens fall within my budget and don't mind the slight change in prices. Just want to get the best out of the bunch.
Personally I'm inclined towards the Sigma 150-500mm because of the reach and the price.

Would love a fixed f value lens but these are simply out of my budget and moreover when we use a teleconverter i lose the optical stabilization function.

If there are any other lens options that I have overlooked please do tell me .

Ideally I'm looking for something within 2000 US $.

Appreciate the help in advance.
For wildlife the bigger the better. My preference is the 500-600mm F/4. You can get a pre owned one from KEH within your budget.

Here is a manual focus lense

I like the option that u have given but again its got only manual focus mode and not particularly interested in a used lens . Wouldnt mind a company refurbished one though. Thank you for your help.

Between the Nikon D3100 and D5100 which one is recommended for a newbie?
What is the approximate prices currently quoted for them?

Cheers!

i did the same although in Mumbai and got the same kit with goodies for same price as yours and quality of goodies is good.

And also ask for starter DVD from canon which has all the features of cam described in a nice documentary.

DONT BUY from reliance.
Thanks. My plan is to go ahead with Canon. It seems to have a difference of 4K online, but we can trust Canon.

I am planning to go for a 70-300mm lens too.Is there anything I need to know before I make my purchase?

D5100 is defenitly better than D3100. IMO,why dont you just checkout Canon 550D too?

70-300 is out of production now atleast it was when i bought 4months back,
I have got 55-250mm lens with IS II

70-300 which is stopped now had a USM stabilizer and it was very bulky too.

post purchase click pics at the shop itself and check everything in and out and get all the warranty cards stamped.
And dont get shocked if the add-on Lens box is opened and not seal cause before buying people try it and hence not sealed.

This is an AIS lens dating back to 1977. You can use it with a D7000 but with some caveats. See here for more information.

Nikon | Imaging Products | Lens Compatiblity - Nikon D7000

I wouldn't recommend this lens for use with modern DSLRs - metering and focus (manual) are impaired. Modern lenses are manufactured with digital sensors in mind while this one dates back to the film era.

Yes they do, with some conditions. Check their site for details. But do you really want a 35 year old lens model?

PS - I admit that it has held its value well. $2700 after 35 years! Phew!

Cheers!

Well, why dont you consider Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC which is sub Rs. 28000/-?

I am no Nikonian, Arjun.

Advice: If not getting proper advice here, check 'Dpreview.com' or similar photography-specific forums for pioneer's expert opinion. Simply browse through Nikon forums, you will be solved.
$2000 is a lot of money, and reselling a used lens is loss making in India.

Best of luck and happy photo-tour !
