Re: The DSLR Thread

Can someone recommend a few shops in Mumbai where I may find a 100 mm filter holder, a 77 mm adapter ring & a good quality 86 mm UV filter?
This stuff is proving more difficult to get than cameras & lenses!

How is inbuilt focus motor related with IS?

I don't think he's conversant with camera and lens technologies. He's obviously in the learning or familiarisation phase. You need to cut him some slack.

Yup, downloaded, installed and working successfully on a camera near you There are a few members I think who are using it here on crop sensors, havent seen any 5D owners here who done it. I'm using the unified version on my T1i.

The Canon 110D does not come with stabilization built in to the camera body; it is built into their Lens. Barring literally a couple of lens, all other Canon lens will work with the 1100D, IS notwithstanding. You also have the choice of non-canon lens but no point in any new lens now since you are still experimenting and learning.

read about image stabilization here: Image stabilization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

read about the inbuilt focus motor here: Autofocus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would suggest reading up more about DSLR's and how they work in general. Here is one Canon EOS resource for beginners which I thought is brilliant.
Canon EOS Beginners' FAQ

Hope it helps.

In short - the answer is no because Canon does NOT make cameras with in-body image stabilisation. Ditto for Nikon.

thewhiteknight has provided links to pages that you may want to read to familiarise yourself with camera + lens technologies and jargon.

Good luck and hope you have fun reading.

Hey, if one owns a cir-pl and a UV filter, apart from pure protection, what would be the use of the UV filter? And obviously, the cir-pl is not left attached to the lens and used when required.

UV filters prevent that very slight bluish tinge visible in outdoor shots during daylight. They also reduce the haze and increase contrast.

IMHO this effect was more pronounced with film rather than digital.

Today UV (and NC - neutral colour) filters are mostly used to protect the lens.

See this link:

UV, Skylight and Haze Filters

Cheers!

Lower end Canons - are in a different market segments from the 5D Mk2/3. You can expect EOS 5D-MK 2 prices to drop. As for the others they will do the same when their successors are about to be announced or announced.

The link is outdated. A suggestion - please buy your cameras from authorised dealers only. Hope the one on eBay is authorised?

What are you planning to upgrade to? Shajufx had a D90 before he sold it and went in for a D700. May be able to advise you. You can expect D700 prices to drop now that the D800 is here.

Cheers!
