Congrats Deky on your new Sony dSLR!

Did you pay any Customs duty for your Cam?
I thought if we get any Camera shipped from abroad, we need to pay Duty.

Got My 1000d

finally got a 1000D after a long wait , i have prior experience using Rebel 3000 series, so SLR is not new to me.

DSLR rocks , the instant results is the best part of it all.

I have one canon rebel 3000 analog SLR with 28-90mm lens and dont know what to do with it.I would have used it for about 25 rolls of shots.

No no!!!! actually my fault I should have explained better.

The camera was bidded on ebay.com by me using my cousins account on ebay, who lives in the US. The camera was shipped to her address (the 20USD S&H were the charges for shipping within states.) And she carried the camera for me from the States to India.

So thats how I didnt have to pay any customs.

The 28-90 could work on the 1000D, I suppose. And the Rebel 3000 is a Film camera and they are not called analog...

Where in NCR did you buy the 450D for and how much did you pay for it.
I too want to upgrade to a SLR too, buy maybe later this year and am not able to decide whether to go for the 450D or 50D.

Also is anyone can explain Does Canon launch an upgrade each year like 450D for the 400 D and 50D for the 40D.
If they do then I would like to wait for an upgrade to come and then buy the Camera which is being phased out, as I might get it much cheaper than the prices being quoted now.

PMA just got over, and there is no news of any new DSLRs from the big boys.
I guess with slowdown and all the new version cycle will become once in 2 years instead of once in 1-1.5 years.
So you can expect the 500D end of this year

Thanks TSK and aman for the update.

So I guess that Ill wait till the end of the year for the launch and then evaluate my options whether to buy it from the states or from the Indian grey market like chandni chowk or palika bazar in Delhi.

By the time the update comes along and the reviews are on the website, you will again feel like waiting for some more time. Have a look at the Canon 40D. At current selling prices, its the best VFM DSLR you can buy.

I bought it for 44k's with 18-55 mm IS kit lens, grey.

Harjeev,

I think buying from states is the best option, Indian grey prices are not comparable to the price you get in US.

If you are looking at UK, Jessops is selling it around 500 pounds, Last week while in London, I also saw Jacobs selling 450D stock B at 400 pounds.
