Canon showroom do not sell products. It is more like a place where you can get to know the products. On prices, they will indicate the same as mentioned in Canon India website. Their advise to me was to approach approved dealers.

Canon showroom guys will surely help in this regard. They asked me to bring the camera post-purchase for registration and demo.

Sadly no Pentax there :(
If the product is not readily available with them, and if you could tolerate couple of weeks delivery time, you could get from them.
Prices will be very good. Great package as well.

If you really do not want to spend big money, I will say your 18-55 will be the best lens for the trip. with money go for super wide angle

chances are, if you have video in your regular cam, you will shoot more videos. My sony mini DV cam is lying in dust too. the whole reason i bought a cam with HD movie is for occasional movie shooting if needed.

Guys i am very new to photography (although i have been clicking pictures ever since childhood, but never tried with a pro cam) and have just purchased a canon EOS 1000D with 18-55 standard lens. Altough i have read the manual and other stuff provided with the cam, just had these question. (may sound stupid, but i had to ask)

1. How do i zoom in? Is there any other way to zoom in apart from rotating the lens? In my opinion the zooming is very less

2. can i record a video?

3. Is there a tutorial online for layman like me who can read about about usuing different setting for different application and learning more about the terminology used in photography

4. This is the first time i am using a view finder for clicking images. I am not used to it. So using the live view LCD display all the time. But it works only in some setting. SO do i have to live with the view finder now?

Do reply guys.

Abbas congrats on the cam!!

1. There is NO other way to zoom! you will have to rotate the zoom ring.

2. No you can not record video.

3. google is your friend here, otherwise check out Photography community, including forums, reviews, and galleries from Photo.net

4. Read up the manual, enable the FOCUSing in the LIVEVIEW mode using the Custom functions and once this is done you can focus using * button on the right.

IMHO you would have been happier with a highend P&S Camera!

Thanks aZa,

You are right when you say i would be better off with a highend P&S camera, infact i even had second thoughts when i found it is not that user friendly like other p&s cams. But i am willing to learn. I am trying to know for what these DSLR cams are and what it can do which other p&s can`t. I know you guys are there if i have any questions, and that reassures my belief that its worth the money spent.

For now i have just learnt that zooming from a normal p&s cam which uses a digital zoom actually reduces the mega pixels used. The more you zoom the less mega pixels are used. But thats not the case when i am zooming with the zooming ring.

Please help my confusion is
1) I have one of my friend who works in canon and he has some discount coupon with him so I decided to go for Canon camera as I can get a good deal.

2) EOS 450 D is available only body with B&W 24000+taxes ( Friend is arranging a discount)

As lens is not available with him he can only arrange body then I need to spend around 25 + 8 K for 18-55 lens which comes around 33 K which is not a good deal indeed. He that day said that he can arrange 500 D for 34 with kit lens + taxes on which I agreed.

But latest situation , he informed that 500 D is not available and out of stock and he will take some more time to arrange. I cant wait as I need to go outside and I need a camera.

Now he offered me Canon 550 with kit lens with B&W for 37800 + Taxes.

I am confused will it be a good deal and is it worth spending for 550 D instead of 450 D / 500 D , My basic requirement is camera and not video recording. What is your opinion about purchasing a 1000D and spending more amount on lenses.

Pls suggest.

Thanks
AK

So you pay 7K more than the 1000D with same lens for spot metering and slightly faster AF (ther other features : more pixels, bigger screen, etc.. do not translate to better IQ).
