@Saju: Your post reminds me of some hair growing oil formula.
(Just joking, both the photos and the idea are great )
I am thinking of picking up mine (body plus lenses) in person from UK.Good point is that,I can save some money for the accessories, bad point is that,I have to wait for next 2 1/2 months.Kit lens,Nifty fifty and nifty two fifty.

@k_ajay: I am worse than you. But,in different photography forums, people are saying Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens is better choice than cheap 70-300 USM lens, with obvious compromise in the dark.

Hi abhishek

Buddy can you please explain what the nifty two fifty is.
I understand the nifty fifty is referred to the Prime 50mm F1.8!

Which is the other one?
thanks

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is the nifty two fifty. Just like the nifty fifty is Canon's best value prime, the nifty two fifty is canon's best value telephoto zoom.

Canon EOS range

Member friends,

From Bangalore, member Unni and I are currently inquiring with 2 canon authorised retailers for prices of EOS 500D and EOS 550D. I'm checking with Jayesh Mehta of Foto Circle and Unni will be checking with RK.

The current price of 550D with FotoCircle is 45K+ with warranty & the 18-55 kit lens. Jayesh with give me the price of 500D on the 15th. The last time I checked with him some 2 weeks earlier, he quoted 38K+ for the 500. Unni said even RK will get back to him (or Shaju) by wednesday for the 500D as stocks are not available with RK nor with FotoCircle. Both of us believe and are speculating the price 'may' go down a bit from 38K.

Will post the price of 500D here when I/we find out. To go in for a joint quote, are there any other DSLR sure buying prospects in bangalore that would like to team up with us to benefit from a lower price and/or accessories/freebies? Please PM either Unni or me and we'll be happy to assist.

Cheers
aK

Hi Abhishek, yeah the few reviews I've managed to search and read of the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS has positive reviews recommending the purchase and claim it to be one of Canon's good telephoto lens.

The other that have rave reviews is the one that Teknophobia pointed out, the 70-200 f4 L USM lens. It's pricey but there is hardly a review to write something negative about it..

If I can, I'll try to go in for the 'nifty two fifty'

RK might give me a quote of 37+ by 16th. 500D price has dropped after the launch of 550D. There was one more DSLR buyer reported in this thread, if he hasnt bought already, please join the group.

I am joining your group as guranteed buyer not for the body but for the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 OS HSM lens which is estimated to be around 23k. Although its a lens, its as equal as a Canon 1000D or Nikon D3000 (body only) buyer pricewise ! Here is the list of things as of now:

1) Canon 500D kit (for Unni)
2) Canon 550D kit (for Ajay)
3) Sigma 17-70 OS HSM (for me)
4) Marumi or Hoya CPL filter 72 mm (for me)

So its already a deal above 1 lakh. I have spoken to RK today, will get the updates as the stocks reach them. Will get the quote from Jayesh same time, lets see who wants a group deal.

5) 8GB SD/SDHC memory card [class 6] - 2 units.

So its already a deal above 1 lakh. I have spoken to RK today, will get the updates as the stocks reach them. Will get the quote from Jayesh same time, lets see who wants a group deal.

Shaju, that's wonderful.. I'll speak to Jayesh on Friday once he has the latest price of 500D that Unni is waiting for and also ask for the total price for the entire items outlined above. Both Jayesh and RK don't have stocks so are not committing the price.
Both Unni and I are also looking at 8GB SD card of class 6 as an additional purchase to the cam, so I'm adding that to the list above.

Also, I don't know much [rather anything] about the filters. I understood from one of the posts I read in this thread [or elsewhere] that there is a filter that can be/should be? used for landscape photography where the filter's usage improves the blues [sky] etc. [think it was someone's response to or a query about a filter Tanveer uses].

So if would help if you can throw some light about filters and what it does, which ones to buy for EOD 550D and any costs, Shaju.. I may not invest on them immediately, but at least I can get to know something about filters.

Thanks
aK

Ajay, I would rather recommend you to go through this site than me explaining about it, as I am also a learner who just tries to understand things through a lot of reading. CameraFilters.com - Official Site

Hurrycane, can you confirm what camera you have decided on? We'll need a model name & number to ask for it's price.. I only know of Canon EOS 1000D as a starter DSLR camera which retails for about 22K-23K with an EF-S 18-55 IS kit lens. I'm not aware of the Nikon line up.

Unni and I will be able to ask for a quote once you confirm the camera you need. Thanks.

Ajay, remember I had a doubt earlier, now hurrycane has confirmed it. So we are 4 now, total above 1.25 lak easily. If by any chance hurrycane is not the one who expressed the plan to buy a new DSLR earlier in this thread, we have a 5th person for sure.

Hurrycane, read more reviews about canon 1000D, Nikon D3000 (newer launch compared to canon) and shortlist your choice. Its easier from that point.
