Ooops... mistake! you shouldn't have taken the Alpha anywhere near him.

Now I'll give you an idea - call him up and tell him that the AF motor in your camera body was blown because you mounted the Minolta lens, also tell him that you got to know later from experts that a Minolta lens can blow up the motor in the Alpha body - I hope that's it, he will have second thoughts buying an Alpha.

If idea of 'blown up motor' is too much, at least say that the AF gears inside Alpha body is slipping because of damages caused due to extra load in focusing the Minolta lens.

For others here: None of this is actually true. I've been using Minolta lens in my alpha and there is absolutely no issues with AF.

Too many kaushiks around here at Team-BHP ;-)

BTW, this is the scanner I was referring(not sure about the version) Dimage Scan Dual II | KONICA MINOLTA, but as feared, it's a discontinued model :-(. And it seems like they no longer have any current scanner models now.

Tamron 10-24

After 20 days of placing the order, I now have the Tamron 10-24 from the Smartshoppers guys.
Packing was great, it came in original box with hood.

Just a word of advice. Test the lens for image quality on the RHS and the LHS of the frame. I know many people including myself who had a problem with the left side noticeably inferior to the RHS of the image. If you get a good copy its an excellent lens.

Help

Wanted to help a friend.
He is looking for a DSLR under 30k.
Olympus E450 24k
Olympus E520 28k
Canon 1000D 22k
Nikon D3000 27k

Which one would be good for Landscape and occational birding. He is thinking of going for zoom xx-300mm also.

Time to celebrate !!! Curiously waiting to see some shots with that. Please post the link here, so that we dont have to go all day searching.

My wait for the sigma 17-70 (OS HSM version) is like an unending process, as the lens is not yet available in India. My neighbour came back from his 1 week US trip last night, sadly the camera outlets were closed due to Easter break, I am unlucky. Gurus, please suggest some alternatives to fill the 10-70 area (for Nikon D60)! Thanks.

None of the above comes with xx-300zoom.

Under 30 K there is only one choice with 55-300 mm zoom that is Pentax - Kx dual lens kit. Well it is not costly but an excellent choice.

If you are able to get it from abroad.

The only downside is lack of support which is there with Olympus also.

Just a dumb Q, I do not see any VC, OS, VR in most of the wide angle lenses, like this tamron is not VC.

Does that mean we really do not need VC at wide angles?

Abbas - There are some ebay discount coupons which give a 10% (max Rs 1000) discount. Just register at ebay.in and you will get them to your email address after a few days. Will reduce the price of the 1000D even more.

Tanveer - do post some pics today with your new wide-angle lens.

No I don't. I had purchased the lens from KEH when I was in the USA. They have an excellent return policy and they took it without any questions asked. I bought a used 180 2.8D instead of the refund and got a 12-24 Tokina to cover my wide angle needs. Tamron and Sigma are pretty notorious when it comes to sample variation and I would advise anyone buying these to test their lenses before accepting them.

A normal person needs VR, IS, OS or VC in most lenses. Tanveer has mastered the art of keeping himself steady even in a moving bus !!
